Verno wrote on May 18, 2011, 11:26: I think there's a legitimate segment of the consumer market that uses resale to help drive new sales but unfortunately there's also a lot of people have no real interest in paying full price even if the game legitimately warrants it. And? Don't get me wrong, I see your argument, I just fail to see why it's an issue. If people don't want to pay 60 bucks for a game, I'm pretty sure they are allowed to in the US.
I know the game industry wants everyone to pay 300 dollars per copy of their 5 hour games, but what they want has no bearing on what their customers can and will do.
IF the game industry was at all smart, and they have proven time and time again that they're as dumb as a sack full of fucking retarded hammers, they would just start up their own second-hand business and crush gamestop on price and convenience. Instead, they'd rather just sit there, and bitch, whine and moan about it for year after year after year after year after fucking year.
People like to say "well you cant get mad at people for being savvy consumers" and hey thats true but you also can't get mad at the industry for being savvy either. The industry isn't being "savvy." It's being a whiny, petulant child that continuously saddles its legitimate customers with more and more retarded horseshit hoops they have to jump through in order to enjoy, or in many cases even USE, the product that they just bought.
If the book industry had a method around resale for the past one hundred years you can bet at some point they would taken it. They might have. Alternatively, they might have figured that there's a segment of the market that prefers stuff cheaper; realized that they still make a gargantuan assload of money, and stop sweating the tiny amount of "lost" sales due to the second hand market.
Also, I don't recall the book industry whining about second hand day in and day out. They HAVE whined about the scam where book stores sell books without a cover, which is a book they reported as lost and got reimbursed for, but in my opinion that's fair, because that's just plain theft. Second hand sales is not theft, no matter how much the fucking game industry cries and bleats that it is.
We'll see if the game industry ever figures it out. I seriously doubt it, but who knows.
Btw, Beamer, it's GameSTOP, not GameSPY.
