Brink Tweak Tool

Rush-Zone offers downloads of version 1.4 of Brink Configurator, offering the ability to tweak field of view and other elements of Brink, Splash Damage's first-person shooter. Word is: "This program is to be used with the Brink it allows you to configure settings that are not in the in-game menus." Thanks PC Gamer.

Whoo boy this game had me frustrated at some points. If your team is stuck progressing in a map. Usually its because they don't look for alternate routes. Take a new route, flank the enemy. Log jam busted.

Easier said than done of course. The climbing on stuff and spotting routes. These take a while to pick up.

It's not so much your team as it is the map design is heavily choke point based with far too many angles of fire to accommodate the defense side for the most part. The map design is easily my biggest let down with this game, it's very poorly balanced and the underlying basic design isn't great either.

I don't understand how map makers have failed to learn much after Counter-Strike and Battlefield taught some very basic lessons in firing angles and having multiple choke points.

What an absolute joke that the community has to finish the job for useless console minded developers.

Wont be getting my money.

Would be a lot easier to coordinate with your team if the damn VOIP worked...

I've found it very easy to be frustrated because 99% of the time, you'll die when trying to complete an objective that also happens to be a brutal chokepoint that completely stacks the odds against the offensive team. Trying to escort a slow-moving NPC up a very narrow walkway in the Aquarium is extremely frustrating when the entire other team spawns right next to it and repeatedly mows you down because you have no cover and have to stay close to the NPC in order to keep him moving.

Allowing us to switch characters between rounds sounds like the best solution. I can create a character with each body type that way, and get to use them all whenever I need to.

It's part of your character setup. Not being able to change in-game makes some sense, but having no ability to either change body size or character in-between rounds does suck.

Not that it matters much to me right now, since I prefer the medium body type by far.

Wow really? Hadn't noticed this, that's pretty bad

Some servers give you a good ping but then have bad server lag after you start playing. In game lag is well hidden and so your left with a bad, frustrating experience.

If you get on a good server, the game is a blast. The AI bots are also hit or miss depending on the server. You can run into ultra deadly bots or brain dead simpletons that don't like to fire their gun.

Weapon choice, weapon addons and the body size you choose are a key thing. Progressing up to level 20 doesn't take long.

The lag issue could be caused by people hosting the game off of inadequate bandwidth, public server files are nice but when people think they can host a multiplayer game off of their DSL connection things get pretty ugly.

What the... no K/D ratio displayed? Boycott for life!

Seriously, how is Valve going to penalize/reward me if certain numbers aren't openly tracked?

You get a score each round and awards. One of the awards is most kills. So instead of looking at your K/D ratio, you start looking at your score and awards.

Hello All,

First time posting but i've been coming to this site for years and figured I'd start throwing in my two cents from time to time.

Regarding Brink,

I can understand the hate, especially with the given bugs, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I have an ATI card and with the most recent patch, it seemed to address the Frames-per-second issues I was having for the most part. The last bug that's real annoying is the losing sound issue on a few of the maps, which is odd because when it happens, it seems to happen almost immediately or it doesnt happen at all.

Regarding the overall game: It's not going to be everyones cup of tea. It's fast paced and they force you to work together. No K/D ratio displayed. you earn points by working together. You can run off and lone wolf it, but you don't get near the amount of experieince points as you do when you kill someone near the objectives, etc...

Anyways, I've been playing FPS's for as long as they have been around for the most part. And while this style of gameplay doesnt make up for playing compedatively in lets say BFBC2(my most recently heavily played FPS), I'm having a blast. I've found you just cant be as frustrated when you die in this type of game, you must expect it, because it's wild gameplay. I've had some satisfying moments playing the faster light class, flanking the team, killing a few and slide sweeping the next guy on his ass and thn gun butting him to death while hes tring to figure out what happened. Anyways, to each their own on if this game is worth buying. Too bad we don't have a demo to evaluate

This was pretty much my exact evaluation of the game. After playing FPS games since as far back as Catacombs (Yes, thats pre-Wolf3D). I have to say, honestly, nothing will ever beat playing Doom 2 on a dwango map pack on a BBS with turbo 200 turned on with a few other guys.

But bugs and all, this is the most fun I've ever had playing a team oriented FPS. I love Bad Company 2, but thats still a game where someone can still "Lone Wolf" it and then brag about their score. Brink forces an entirely Team centric experience, if you're not participating, then you're not doing well and therefor not winning. And I like that, more games need to have a Team based multiplayer similar to this. Personally I think once all the kinks are worked out and they release the free DLC with more maps and content, the game will be worth whatever price it may be by then. Whether it is still 50 at the time, or dropped to 40 or so.

It's a one month wonder, wait for a discount (>$25) and then make sure there are still enough people playing to make it worth while.

One of the most sincere, and honest reviews. This thing needs to be patched. They lost me when it was too laggy to play online, then I switched to solo singleplayer, and low and behold the AI enemies are glitching around and are lagging and my bullets are not connecting.

BTW it should never take POINT BLANK, three entire shots from a shotgun to the head to kill someone. ( maybe it was a bad server, but holy shit what kind of netcode permits that )

whoever you are, shotgun to the face should almost always be an instant kill, or atleast take away like more than half of their health.

I haven't had that bug but maybe that explains the extremely low player numbers on servers.
