Out of the Blue

The good news about my new squirrel-proof feeder? It seems to actually thwart the squirrels so far, I just today got to witness one do his best to get into the seed, only to end up falling off the feeder and give up. The bad news is that to some degree the feeder is also bird-proof. I've watched several birds have too much trouble balancing on its tippy base to make it worth their whiles to bother. I think I will go back to the store and see if I can exchange it for one of the models that has spring-loaded perches, even if it means it is more likely to suffer squirrel intrusions. Of course, if I keep this one, the 20 lb bag of birdseed I bought along with it might turn out to be a lifetime supply, but that doesn't seem to be the point. On the bright side, some goldfinches have discovered the other feeder, which doesn't seem to interest the squirrels at all, and they are awfully cute little things, so at least there's some activity out there.

Hehe

Well you gotta understand, where i live squirrels are rare, i have foxes, stone-marten and hedgehogs in my area, so yeah... squirrels are not the top of the food chain.

Only birds i care about are
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Magpie

Mainly because a pair nested in my backyard about 9 years ago and stayed in the area ever since. If you know magpies you realize what this means to the amount of "traffic" my bird-feeders get.

My dad just sent me an image from his cabin where he put up a new bird feeder - it is a feeder for 12+ birds at once, and it has 9 gold/yellow finches on it. Very cool.
Why don't you share it with us?

Bought BFBC2 on that 50% off sale last week or so. Having the same problem I had with the original vietnam game - so much green that I am having a hard time identifying players in the brush and on the ground with my red/green colorblindness. Oh well. Cheap $7.xx waste.

Do you ever have issues with Starlings? We've managed to be pretty lucky with no visits from the local squirrel population, but these dang Starlings come in hordes. We've tried suet and seed that they are supposedly disgusted with, but they must be pretty hungry. It's unfortunate since between the Starling feedings, we tend to have a handful of songbirds that like our offerings. We do live in a small town in North Dakota, so I'm sure we could get away with plunking them off with a pellet gun, but I'd rather not ... yet
