So far I'm really liking it. I've just been playing SP and challenge missions, but it's pretty good. No performance issues at all. Only one crash so far, and that's after I alt-tabbed out and left it that way for a while. No crashes while playing so far.
The bot AI definitely isn't good, but I don't think it's as horrible as some are saying either. I'm sure they'll keep working on it. I'd love to see this game get the kind of attention that TF2 gets, but I know that's not likely. Really though, the SP is just a training ground for MP anyway. Maybe some of these reviewers should learn how to play before shitting all over the game. Morons. Guess they're too used to the "press A to win" types of games.
One thing I've noticed is that it looks like some of the weapons are going to end up being totally useless because there are other weapons that are essentially the same, but with better stats. They could probably remove half the weapons and it would actually be better. I think there will be a fair bit of balancing needed over time, but that's true of pretty much every MP game. |

| What's funny about the bots is that they are supposedly adaptive to your rank. As you rank up they become more and more difficult. I guess the devs did this to let the players unlock stuff quickly at the beginning. |

| Guess this is going to be one of those ported games that the PC version will achieve a higher score than the console versions. Wasn't the Xbox the lead console on this game? If so than that makes it even funnier |

I'm really disappointed with the quality of the console reviews. They played an apparently buggy Xbox version against bots (which are pretty bad, so far) and had no idea how to use the classes effectively, so no crap it got a bad score.
I've played about an hour of the PC version (all the one-star challenges and two of the two-star ones) and I like it so far. |

Yeah, it looks like the guy only spent an hour or two playing it before kicking out his review. I saw that. I am not sure if gamerscore alone is enough evidence for that though.
Regardless I own the game and I like it so really don't care much about game reviewers and their silly ways of scoring games. |

The console versions of the game supposedly have some problems in MP. Giantbomb shits on the game too but watching them play its quickly apparent that they have no clue what they are doing. At one point Jeff actually stands out in the open facing 4 people from the enemy team, dies and shouts "OH COME ON" as if he was supposed to win that and the game somehow cheated him. A lot of these reviewers are really full of shit.
That idiot from Joystiq punched out his review before finishing even 2 hours of gameplay. You really can't trust a lot of review sources these days, it sucks. The newer generation of gamer who works at these places often has the Xbot/instant gratification/achievement mentality. |

Game has some issues at the moment:
- performance with AA or SSAO on is apparently awful - my server keeps freezing but nothing in the logfiles, Splash said patch is incoming at some point today or tomorrow - the AI is really bad, just play with people. I will turn off bot AI on the server, its that bad. - Some people are having sound issues, you can fix them by running the dxsetup in the Brink directory in case it didn't auto-run when you first launched the game
Technical BS aside the game is pretty good once you get a full server going. I am not happy with their decision to lock the different body types but it doesn't take long to unlock them at least. Once they get the technical shit ironed out we should have a pretty good game. |

I've played a quick 15 minutes this morning before work and I cranked everything to the max in the options menu and the performance dropped down in intense firefight to my surprise even though I got a top of the line PC.
I will turn that off, but I did not have time to play around with it this morning. Yes the game definitely needs a few patches to be more enjoyable, but it is fun as it is right now. Will have to try the MP only played some single player this morning only to see the game in action. |

Thus far, not a bad experience. My only significant complaint is in the audio direction. One of the things that both the CoD series and BF series do very well is give you solid audio and visual cues when you've hit someone so there's no wondering.
In this game, it's like the audio is just missing. The gun sounds are fine, and I can see if I've hit someone via their health bar, but not having an aural response when I hit someone is very noticable. Hell, I walked up to someone and melee'd them and the only reason I knew I hit them was because they were on the ground. You'd think swinging the butt of your gun at someone would warrant at least a thump of some sort. All I hear is the animation sound of swinging the gun and then the enemy falls over. It's just an odd disconnect.
Beyond that, the game is fun for the most part. A bit floaty, but that's more than made up for with the freedom of movement. Oh, and whoever thought up the mechanics of the escort missions should be fired. Seriously... the npc just wanders along on his own timeline whether you like it or not. You come to a corner and slow to look out and see if there are enemies, by the time you've turned back, the VIP (who's an NPC) has wandered out into the open and been shot. So you're constantly following behind him and getting him back up over and over and over until he finally reaches the objective, having already died (sorry, been 'incapacitated') a thousand times on the way. Just plain weird. |

Rough launch. Game looks promising but it needs a patch to fix up some of the technical problems marring the experience. Do not turn on SSAO, it will murder your performance. ATI and Nvidia need new drivers, you can tell there aren't a lot of optimizations for this. Feels like the game is capped at 30fps which is strange because the rest of the port seems really good. Probably an oversight at their part, hopefully easily corrected. The bot AI is retarded beyond belief, do not play SP unless you just want to quickly unlock the Light and Heavy body types which takes about 15 minutes.
When the game is working though it's a ton of fun, the weapons have great feedback and hit detection seems pretty decent at first glance. Level of customization is fantastic, everyone can really make their own character. Once they get a patch out this should be great.
To change your FoV make sure you use ui_fov instead of g_fov like in Wolfenstein.
They must be doing something because most of the dedicated servers are down so I think they are patching the servers. |

Verno wrote on May 9, 2011, 22:33: Server is up
The House of Blues - IP: 75.102.38.154 port: 30015
It's a public server running the Objective gameplay mode with the Advanced ruleset which means Friendly Fire is ON. The server has bots until users take their slots like CS/TF/etc. You can vote for maps and stuff, I used the default map rotation with no limitation.
I'll ask Blue to see if we can get a DNS pointer for brink.bluesnews.com or something. It's hosted with AoW in Chicago as I figured that was pretty close to central for US/CDN.
Enjoy and I'll be home to frag with everyone after work tomorrow Thanks Verno, I'll check it out |

It is TF2 on roids. I haven't played BRINK yet but I highly doubt that. TF2 has rockets. And grenade launchers. And rocket jumping. And grenade jumping. And flamethrowers. And backstabs.
That said, there do seem to be a lot of similarities. Linear, objective-driven maps with lots of chokepoints necessitating teamwork. Many of the reviews have been criticizing that very fact, which makes me wonder what they think of TF2 (if they've even played it). |

THanks Cutter.
Wow. Played single player campaign and challenges for a while, then did a few rounds online with friends of the campaign.
Game is pretty fast paced, thought it would be slower.
It is TF2 on roids. And no stupid hats.
There are a lot of background sounds from Assassin's Creed. |
