Diablo III in the "Home Stretch"

The Diablo III preview on NYTimes.com has indications from Blizzard that their action/RPG sequel nears, as Jay Wilson tells the old gray lady the game is nearing completion: "We’re definitely in the home stretch. We’re crunching. This is when the magic happens." Thanks PC Gamer.

Edit: Guys, did any of you see Blizzards leaked release schedule? Q4 2011. It's a comin!

I did read that leaked Activision report. You should note that ActiBlizz fiscal years differ from your regular Julian Calendar Year, Q4 2011 is actually spring 2012. Take note please.

Diablo III will be out just in the nick of time for me to enjoy my 128 core China made UPU with 4320p Red-Ray resolution holograph projector, and 1TB of DDR5 system Ram, with unlimited Google storage over Fiberoptic channel 100GBethernet unlimiband ISP. Still with Keyboard and Mouse, and that suits me just fine!

mid 2012 at Earliest, the race is on, will we live to see the day of D3 install.exe past 05/21 ? You decide!

You know, when PCs get to the point when we have 1TB of RAM as a middle-of-the-road standard sort of figure, we'll probably have consoles getting by with 250GB of it and we'll still be playing second fiddle to the poor boy machines.

Yeah, but I'll be able to work on my Excel spreadsheets like a BOSS.

Nice points people, but I would have to disagree with Blizzard waiting for a holiday to release this title. The day Blizzard decides to release D3 will be a world wide holiday if businesses like it or not. I bet many will call off to play this one. With that said, when this game is done the release will be soon after. I am looking forward to it!:) Rock on! Maim the imps!:)

I hate to add a sad but probably true note. Someone mentioned beta and it caused me to think about Blizzard's size. I wonder if Blizzard is big enough of a company now to hold a solid beta in house without the public even knowing about it? I sure hope not...

Crunching is when the magic happens? What a load of crap...

Crunching is nothing more than shitty project management. It's purely a sign of incompetence, not something positive.

You forget that crunching for Blizzard is very different from any other development house out there. Crunching for them means they'e finally putting in a 40 hour work week all the way from Monday to Friday! It's painful, yes, we know, but such are the sacrifices one must make!

I wish we could get the game now but they'll probably wiat for a Halloween or Xmas releases, sigh.

I was predicting late this year, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it slip into 2012.
Truth is brutal. Prepare for pain.

Creston, please tell me you're being sarcastic....lol

Yes, I am. And wary... After two smart years, the industry seems to have reverted to "Let's all release our shit in November, so we can all sell fewer copies! PROFIT!"

Creston

lol. I also love it when people complain there aren't any new released out in Dec/Jan/Feb. I think 11/11/11's game will keep me playing (with mods) well into 2012

I'm still saying 2013 maybe -14!

Yeah unfortunately home stretch for Blizzard is like another year of polish minimum.

They should prob start selling dlc early, no one likes getting it on day 0, so let's just give ppl what they want and get that day (-14) dlc out there.

What is it with you and shit posting lately? Get a grip man.

All of it except that one part is reasonable. The internet will be LIMITED and TIERED and we'd be lucky to have 100 mbit. Heck, home users are lucky to get even 10mbit unlimited nowadays.

Crunching is nothing more than shitty project management. It's purely a sign of incompetence, not something positive.

It's also a result of too many people willing to put up with a crap work environment just because it means they get to work on games. For every person who resists crunch, how many people are there who would jump at the opportunity?
