If you actually care about tracking with a phone, quit using your phone - it has been happening this whole time. If you didn't know that, well, remove head from ass. It isn't 1980. Whow, you are indeed full of shit. So just for your info, I don't even use Facebook.
By using a cell phone all that I agree to is, that they contact their nearest station(s) to establish a connection. What I don't agree with is that they gather private information, create a profile and use and share that information for their benefit (besides the logging that is legaly required). And if you really compare localized anonym advertisement with creating a profile, well then you can't be helped anyways. Even if they hide the requirement to agree with this abuse of information somewhere in their TOS, the law restricts it and thus it is illegal and nothing that I support, just because I decided to use some common hardware.
But what do I know, perhaps it is different in the US. The law just exists to be ignored if some major company decides to modify the rules by its own will, is that so?
Blaming Sony for their miserable communication during the first days is okay. Your rant about corrupt oversea shit carers on the other hand, is still dumb stuff. |

I just wonder how the passwords where compromised, are they really stored in clear text, normally you store a hash value of the password and not the password itself.
I hadn't stored my CC info luckily.
But did I use same password as for my bluesnews account? Did I even write this? |

When your precious Apple gathers and shares private data about you, you are all fine about it. But oh noes, an oversea company got attacked by hackers! Oh those corrupt devils that give a shit about their customers!
Seriously, wtf? I never ONCE have defended Apple - I don't even own their products, as they are over priced garbage. There are products without the DRM that function above and beyond anything that trendy place can offer. Nice try. *shrug* I only remember how you questioned why anyone would care about that iPhone tracking etc. So in one case you don't mind when a company actively ignores your rights and in the other case, where a company is hacked, you babble something about overseas, corruption and giving a shit about customers.
So I don't really care if you like or own Apple products, but I still question your logic. And that was the courteous phrased version, that I used in the previous sentence. You have no rights for either service (PSN or your phone). What rights do you speak of? Privacy? Nope. You agree to use their service with their hardware under their guidlines.
If you want privacy, you need to unplug.
I don't care about either service. I am speaking about being silent for almost 2 weeks and not speaking with their customers. Apple on the other hand came out the next day and said (lied) that it was a software bug. Both companies caught with their pants on the ground but at least Apple communicated something.
You use a cell phone - you AGREE to be tracked. How do you think they show you what restaurants are close? I don't give 2 tosses about Sony or Apple. Neither company cares about anything other than the bottom line - otherwise their products wouldn't cost $X to make and sell them for $10X.
Sony doesn't exactly have a great track record with honesty in the PS3 department. Was the firmware that knocked out the OS install ever resolved? |

plus it has been stated that the credit card info was encripted, so theres no saying anyones card was compromised at all. I'm not trusting that statement until the government inquiries or lawsuits confirm it. As for people using credit cards on PSN in the future, I bet you will see a lot of virtual cards, prepaid cards and travel-like credit cards used instead of traditional CCs. This means there will be a lot less impulse spending on PSN going forward, it will definitely have a financial impact on them. |

In any case, what I'm really curious to know is how many people are going to go straight back and happily put their credit card number back on PSN? Why not? Everytime you use your credit card anywhere you are at risk of it having it fall into the wrong hands. The only way to be totally secure is to not even have a credit card in the first place... plus it has been stated that the credit card info was encripted, so theres no saying anyones card was compromised at all.
A two week downtime means they are basically overhauling every single bit of their entire network security, meaning it was all garbage. How much trust do you have that their new network will really be all that better? The fact that they absolutly cannot afford to have this happen again. I'd bet my bottom dollar they will do everything in thier power to secure the PSN as best as humanly possible. |

| I think they are picking a date that should ease a person's concern about buying a ps3 game like Motorstorm Apocolypse or Brink. Basically if they don't get the network up and running by then they miss out on a LOT of sales for the platform. I would expect that even if the network isn't fully functional it will be back in some form before tuesday when brink and Motorstorm arrive. |
