Went to the UK for the first time about 15 years ago, and that was one of the terms covered. As well as how not to order two drinks in a pub.

Because I addressed it earlier in this thread. It's a stupid argument to make. "OMG there are so many things worse so you concentrate on this!?" No, it's perfectly legitimate considering I doubt people had serious moral expectations from the cliched, sexist action hero archetype who slaps a woman rump while he is slaughtering things wholesale. By design it's either meant to push a boundary or focus on vicarious enjoyment, neither of which degrades videogames as an industry as those same techniques are employed in other entertainment products. Gaming doesn't need to grow up, people do. |

Yes, the worse things are universally accepted as worse and parody. The less worse things are done less so. To do what everyone does, if I made a video game in which I rape your mother and then blow up the universe which would you find more damaging? |

It's okay to slaughter people wholesale but as soon as you smack a woman on the ass you've crossed a line?
It's amazing that you call people idiots without being able to think how the difference between these might change how someone perceives them. |

was anyone expecting anything different? hallooo? this is duke nukem.. doesnt anyone remember the first one? tongue in cheek sexism is part of the franchise.. though *obviously* not serious.. and if you want to go that way the fact you were shooting cops in the 1st one was way more disturbing than a few strippers..the interesting bit is that WAY more men than women seem to be complaining.. |

Yup, and even then I'd argue that they have some form of purpose that Duke's slap does not.
Does art need a purpose? No. But my main point is that Duke isn't the proper forum to be specifically demeaning. |

In any case the large amount of people using this game to try and feel superior to others is amusing. Stand tall you moral beacons, show us the right path. Money talks and BS walks, to date:
1. Cancelled a preorder for DNF a couple weeks ago.
2. DID NOT BUY COD MW2 or BO
3. DID NOT BUY GTA 2, 3, 4, ever again
etc., etc...
Like mentioned, shock jock crap is a cheap substitue for gameplay. If that's the way things are going to be then I need a new hobby. In a franchise known for being full of virtual bimbos and whose portrayal of women runs as deep as being able to throw wads of cash in their face while they jiggle their tits at you. Smacking these digital whores on the fanny was the bit of sexual objectication that prompted you to cancel your pre-order?
I admire your conviction to adhere to the 'look, but don't touch' code of ethical treatment of women, the gold standard of most strip clubs I believe.
Further, I'm sure your staunch refusal to purchase Modern Warefare 2, Black Ops, or any of the GTA series will also lead to radical changes in how these games are made...how else will they get your invaluable business back?

No, Prez, we're pretty much exactly in the same place, the only difference really is that I think actual damage can be done by making it cool to really demean women, and you, I think, disagree that it's really demeaning women.
For the record, I don't even find the strippers or damsels in distress bad. It's really the whole "I'm going to slap your ass to stop you from being a hysterical girl" thing that I think crosses that line.
Again, I'm not saying they don't have the right to put it in, but I am saying I have the right to call them absolute idiots for doing so. |
