I also cannot believe you're still on about the "shortly after midnight" when I just told you release dates are for made for the origin timezone of the company. It's not some CYA against upsetting retailers, and unless you can provide proof of this (seeing as you keep harping on this, the burden of proof lies on you), then you're just spouting hyperbolic nonsense. Also for the millionth time, I already explained shortly after midnight. I predicted the tuesday shortly after midnight (on east coast) DAYS ago in one of the previous threads.
Its VALVE that has made it origin timezone of the company, previously it was midnight in each timezone as each gamestop opened for a midnight release. It used to be if someone scored a game a couple days early from a retailer mistake, they could still take it home and play it. Then valve stepped in at the time of HL2 and had a single unlock time for every PC copy of their game. So that it was up to a 4 or 5 hour difference in local release times across the US. They locked down any gameplay prior to the release minute. People purchased the game a day or two early in some cases and could not play. When valve pioneered that method of release time control, other companies followed suit (GfWL has a protection method like that now too for instance).
As for proof, I have as much or as little proof as you do relying on valve's word that this all had some sorta effect on the release time. It comes down to indirect proof that can be interpreted in more than one way.
I see the timing of the potatoes being consumed and accelerating completion bars as evidence that valve noticed the work was going too slow to make their pre-planned unchanged release time and needed to speed up the process. Since they always knew this was a possibility, they planned ahead of time, it was only a question of when it kicked in and how fast it accelerated. aka fudge factor to get a predetermined result.
Presumably your interpretation of that evidence is that the potato thing was always planned to be a unchanging help factor that depended on how much work people did in order to do an early release.
Which interpretation is more likely? We differ on that. My interpretation is partly decided on based on how valve has been KNOWN to lie publicly and broken promises to its customer base from as high up as Gabe. So I have no problem with believing they've lied publicly again.
