Portal 2 Countdown Ends, New One Begins

The Aperture Labs Countdown timer has concluded, and while this does not signal the launch of Portal 2 as hoped, it does seem to indicate an early launch is possible, but it requires more "computing power." The page now offers a new "projected launch" timer, reading a bit under 94 hours, which calculates out to Tuesday, but from the looks of it, this process can be sped up through The Potato Sack games, with a note at the bottom labeled "challenge status," next to an unexplained potato multiplier. Here's the message that precedes the new page loading:

09:00 – Hello again.
09:00 – I’ve been waiting a long time for this.
09:00 – I know it’s arriving later than expected.
09:00 – But I have a message for you:
09:00 – April Fools.
09:01 – I’m joking.
09:01 – Seriously, though:
09:01 – You’ve been surprisingly competent at
09:01 – generating electro-chemical energy to jumpstart the system.
09:01 – But now we need raw computational power
09:02 – to speed up the reboot process.

Did anyone buy that potato sack package? It's $40. As soon as I saw that I just closed the offer and moved on. $40? For a collection of aging indie games? I even have a few of those already, and you're asking $40? For $45 you can get portal 2 on steam, but $40 gets you a collection of odd titles that you might enjoy 1 or 2 of? And now buying this/playing it will unlock portal 2 or something?

*look of disapproval*

Seriously? Your bitching because Valve is offering to release a game early for voluntary participation? You don't have to do anything at all. You can sit on your ass and wait until Tuesday.

If you want to help get Portal 2 released early you don't have to buy the whole Potato Sack. You said you have a few of the games already, and all that counts is that you put time into playing any of the games in the Potato Sack, you are not required to buy the Potato Sack. While they're on sale, look through the list of games, there might just be something that you might want. Toki Tori and RUSH are $2.49 each, and are well worth 10x that. Amnesia for $9.99, easily the top indie title of 2010. I already have those three, but I only played the first few levels of RUSH. Now is a good time for me to fire it up and play it and maybe help Portal 2 get released early.
