Ships Ahoy - Homefront

THQ announces that Homefront has invaded stores worldwide, offering Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 gamers the chance to play Kaos Studios' first-person shooter based on a near-future invasion of the U.S.A. by the Greater Korean Republic. The release is accompanied by this new trailer combining live action and gameplay footage showing the (hopefully) fictional future history that leads to a unified Korea, the invasion and occupation of the U.S., and the resistance that is the central theme of the game. "Homefront combines a unique, emotive single player campaign with an incredible online multiplayer experience," said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. "Kaos Studios has created the definitive large scale warfare experience on console and PC, and innovations like Battle Points and Battle Commander offer a completely new twist on the genre, and make the game accessible and rewarding for newcomers and FPS veterans alike."

This is not an AAA title

In the industry it's considered a AAA title. This isn't a review rating system. Just because you feel it doesnt deliver doesn't make it anything else.

It's not childish but I wouldn't call it realistic or even a blockbuster movie style - it feels like an attempt to capture the Halflife 2 story telling but falling short. The gameplay is very console like - confined battlefield engagements. AI is pretty bland.

Im not sure what you consider "realistic", but the dialogue is certainly better than the majority of the games out there. And referring it to "blockbuster movie style"...Blockbuster movies are NOT thought of for their dialogue. Linear storyline maps...yep, this was already known before the game shipped, but again not much different from the majority of other shooters out these days.

I think what really kills it is the constant popups of which make me feel like it's a 1999 game - PUSH E to climb - DESTROY THAT XYZ - PUSH E to hide in the ditch...

There are options for that, allowing the user to turn them all off or select which ones to keep...nullifying any complaint here.

And yes AI That blocks you and ignores your movement path in 2011 is kind of like HUH? - Oh and AI is the only one kicking down doors and once you're thru it they like to block it off from Zombies following you or something :-P

Agreed, it's a complaint...but it's also a problem in the majority of games out there these days, and until devs put more effort into AI development, it's not going to change. As a gamer, we've dealt with shoddy AI for 25 years, you work around it. For me, unless it's horrendously bad it's not worth complaining about.

It is what it is but not if you pay full price now... it irritates you..

Irritates 'you'. Not me. It's not a bad game by any stretch. If you bought the game solely for SP and never to play MP, then maybe you wasted money, that's a buyers problem for not being aware. There have been dozens of games I've passed on simply because I know I won't play the MP and dont want to pay $50 to $60 for 5 hrs of SP. This is up to the buyer to not be ignorant with their purchase.

And the controls do feel sluggish like RO. And no lean.

Lean would have been nice, but not really needed, I was shocked there was even Prone. Controls aren't sluggish at all. If you don't find it smooth, then there is something else going on there, with your settings or hardware. Mouse movement is clean on my machine (like a PC game should), I can jump over things I should be able to jump over, crouch under things...etc...whereas Bulletstorm had none of these things.

Snipers will be the standard load out i'm guessing - this game fails in both way and is a failure of a really appealing setting.

I really doubt Snipers will be the loadout of choice, there are too many other excellent combos available. And the "setting" is a matter of opinion. I'm tired of the middle-east, lets kill random terrorists, setting in the majority of recent games. So urban landscapes, and civilians vs. the Korean Army suits me for a change of pace.
