Someone pointed this out to me earlier and I thought it was amusing. It's a guy from the SA boards who starts out as probably the biggest possible fanboy and slowly realizes the game he has received isn't what he thought it would be. Skimming the posts will give you the gist of it. I actually feel bad for him, he was fervently defending the games honors for quite some time pre-release and you can watch the progression. He's a console user to boot.

Oh and apparently EA lied about the Steam version not having SecuRom. The release date check in the PC version exists in all SKUs and does install/leave behind files that serve other functions. Wonderful. They already settled lawsuits over this with Spore, I'm surprised they failed to disclose that stuff here.

That's just the NON-Steam versions, right?

Still, good job, Bio. Lying about auto-attack being available on consoles, lying about SecuROM not being included. Everything's fine as long as it sells copies, right?

Bah.

To be fair DA:O was the same in that regard.

Quoting someone who bought the PC version and uninstalled it 48 hours later:

This is like Lord of the Rings as performed by a dinner theater troupe.

Couldn't agree more. Nothing but boring trash mobs to fight the majority of the time, the story lacks a coherent direction and punch, it's just not a particularly good game. Hawke isn't particularly interesting nor is the dynamic with his family worthwhile (I wont spoil why). It's not like it's inherently flawed, it just needed another year of development time. I am now a bit worried about ME3 if this is going to be what one year dev cycles churn out. DA:O was far from perfect but you never felt short changed by it's lack of polish. The map templates and enemy spawning issues are almost hilarious, I'm a bit depressed that they thought so little of their fans that it was ok to release that.

This isn't a game......it's punishment.
Screw EA, they consume all that is good and poision it.
Come on guys you didn't seriously think this would turn out to be a great game based on the short development cycle?
I'm finding myself playing more and more of the old classics since developers are leaving the hardcore gamers for one button mashers.

Bioware lost me as a customer with the changes to DA2. The loss of the tactical camera and making it an action RPG are too much.

Maybe the sales will grow beyond the original DA, and Bioware will be happy with their decisions. Seems like the review scores are definitely lower so far, with the obvious exception of PCGamer.

There's other games to spend money on than DA2, but its a shame to lose a fun tactical RPG to consolitis.

It should be, I've done it both on the PC and the 360 versions. I've never tried interrupting my own, but I know that you can interrupt opponents.

Matter of fact, the most useful way I've found is Miasmic flask and Smoking Arrow (the update to Bursting Arrow) work well in tandem, as it both stuns the targets and then creates a smoke veil. I'll have to try again a few times to see if it was just luck on my part that I caught them just at the right time since it was only once that I used that combo.

I haven't tried using Archer's Lance, but in theory as long as you're pointed to the back of your friend on the backstab probability it should actually hit the assassin and either stop his attack or at least bring him out of the stealth. Of course, I've never tried it on Nightmare, so I don't know if it'll actually use the friendly fire system...I wouldn't think it would though.

The easiest way I've found to deal with the assassins is when they cloak for the backstab, switch to whatever AOE launching character you have, run next to the one it's aiming to backstab (either the target it was fighting, or your healer), and then just drop every AOE you can on the area around them. It'll interrupt their backstab and bring them out of cloak.

I can't tell you how many times I had a perfect plan, was about to win, then 10 more enemies spawn out of thin air (literally you can see them pop up in front of you out of nothing) and kill me, since I was spread out and they might spawn next to my mage or something.

Yeah, it's pretty lame. I don't recall DAO relying on such cheap methods of making fights harder. While I appreciate that Bioware was willing to keep the game challenging on the higher difficulties, they're going about it the wrong way.

2. Enemy assassins are overpowered in Nightmare, they can 1 shot your rogues and mages.

This. Assassins are really pissing me off, in fact. Challenge is one thing, but the assassins are so damn cheap. You can't block, avoid or interrupt their backstabs and you can't stop them from cloaking either. There's no way to detect a cloaked assassin either. To make matters even worse, they drink health potions whenever their health gets low and then cloak so you can't do any more damage to them until they uncloak and kill one of your companions with a backstab. The only reliable way to kill them is to continually stun/freeze/paralyze/immobilize them so they never have an opportunity to do anything.

If you thought enemy mages were bad in DAO, the enemy assassins in DA2 (nightmare difficulty) are about 100 times worse.

Of course, this causes you to divert your attention from whatever you're currently fighting to deal with a single target, but again, this adds some level of tactical thinking.

They're pretty bad even on hard. Mages are the death of me on hard, not to mention the sudden reinforcements every fight. It's just badly designed in a lot of ways for hard mode. Then you put it on normal for a while and you can win every fight without even paying attention. There needs to be a middle-ground.

That said this is certainly a step back in many ways from DA:O and I can understand the disappointment. Really I think the core of it is that it was rushed, it feels rushed.

I think the very simple fact that you have to DOWNLOAD the high-res textures screams volumes about how rushed the game really is.

The whole "Keep revisiting the same cave over and over again" thing is also pretty awesome. (That was also very prevalent in DA:O, and yet pretty much everyone hated it there too. I guess that couldn't be "streamlined" out of the game.)

So, Mr Mark Tackman, you created this account just to bash me and this game? What a loser...

Although I'm enjoying the mechanics of the game so far (although combat is far too easy), I'm disappointed that 6-7 hours into the game, there's still no epic storyline to be found. I hope the game develops into more than a bunch of side quests within a single, visually-uninteresting city.
It doesn't. I don't have much to do out in the middle of freaking no where right now(other than freezing my ass off). So I've been playing my sisters copy. 18hrs in, and meh. It's slow, plods along, and really isn't anything special. If I had to rank it as a crpg, it would be about a 4.5/10.

Nothing in the game ties me to 'why'. Or anything else, maybe "DA the Peasant Chronicles" would have been a better title.

So you're judging an entire game based on a demo? I think that speaks for itself. Maybe if you actually played the full game you'd have a different opinion, but I see you'd rather follow the hater sheep.

You're kind of a moron, the demo was released by Bioware to demonstrate the game to people. How else is he supposed to judge the game? Yeah hang on he can just take your word for it because that wouldn't be a sheep thing or anything.
