| If you change the 'i' in giblet to an 'o', it becomes 'goblet', which is definitely not pronounced "joblet". It's not those of us who pronounce the word as 'Gib' who are fucked up; it's the English language and its arbitrary and inconsistent rules of pronunciation and conjugation! |

Probably because "pween" is pretty close to "peen." No one wants to add a "no homo!" suffix every time they say they pwn'd someone. |

I'm usually a stickler for this kind of stuff, but I'll proudly mispronounce "gib," until the day I die.
And I'm going to keep saying mana wrong too. So there. |

Bottom line, it's pronounced "jib".
Very bottom of the line: I'll continue to say "gib" anyway. |

The creators of SCSI originally pronounced it "sexy" but it almost immediately became "scuzzy" instead.
It's weird how these things work on the internet, where most communication happens through text. I often have that problem with computer acronyms and nicknames that I've only ever seen online or read in a book. It can be pretty embarrassing when I suddenly have to say something aloud and realize I don't actually know how it's really pronounced. |

| I always understood this. When I first played Quake and saw the little, indiscriminate chunks of meat fly away from what was formerly my opponent, I thought "oh, giblets!" I would never pronounce "giblets" with a hard "g" so whenever anyone said "gibs" with a hard "g" I gave them a strange look. Just what word did they think it was derived from, anyways? |

Obviously the word is derived from 'giblets', but I don't know anyone who pronounces G-I-B as "jib". It's "gib" (with a 'G' sound). Like the word 'Get'. As in, "Get a life". |

There is no correct answer. Appealing to dictionaries is an error. Dictionaries maybe be descriptive but they are not prescriptive nor proscriptive.
I'm using big words which no one will look up in the dictionary. |
