I wonder how many of those folks are looking after quakelive (yes yes i know its Q3A, but to be fair they have a massive infra structure to maintain now and there is a shitload of "pro" content for it).

I'd hazard a guess and say that some of Zenimax's staff are with the id offices, which is why the number is that high. |

You've got tool/UI/game/system programmers, modelers, concept artists, texture artists, animators, sound people, writers, level designers, game/system designers, PR, advertising, licensing, human resources people, secretaries, team leaders, middle managers, and upper management.
Multiple each of those positions by 10, as a rough average, and you've got a company with 250 people. If id has 10 of any of those positions they're ridiculously bloated. Which, obviously, they must be. Most of those are jobs you need one or two people for, especially now that Zenimax owns them and should handle a bunch of this.
Epic has somewhere around 100-120 I think. Not only do they release a game every other year, give or take, but they do an enormous amount of licensing.
Again, it doesn't surprise me that id sold for such little money. Or that they had to sell at all. |

I remember Quake 4 being a launch title on the 360 Raven.
Quake wars, or licensed it to someone? Splash Damage.
Wolfenstein? Raven again. |

Considering they released 1 game from 99-2011, and considering they don't do any real licensing... I'm not following you here, they've released lots of games during that time. I remember Quake 4 being a launch title on the 360. Doom 3 was the straw that broke the camel's back for me regarding PC gaming, no more thank you. I think Id made lots of console ports of Doom, they made Quake wars, or licensed it to someone? Wolfenstein?
They've made lots of games... maybe you meant good PC games? I'd probably agree with you if that is the case, they have been less than impressive for a long time. |

| If anyone else is curious, Mesquite and Richardson are both suburbs of Dallas and about 17 miles apart. When they said "moving" 250 employees I thought they meant paying for reloacting and what not but I doubt that after seeing how close it is. |
