# Sony's NGP 'Dead On Arrival' and 3DS 'Gimmicky,' says Neil Young. No, not that Neil Young, believe me, I did a double take and clicked the link... Me too...
Then again, he's got a vested interest in seeing cell phones become the dominant gaming platform (and, from his company's position, to see the iPhone do so)... if other platforms don't fit into their strategy, they don't matter (nevermind the fact that a handful of mobile developers have developed for the PSP through either the MiniS program or actual full-scale titles).
Simply put, it's the old "why buy a full-scale game for $40 when you can buy a little game for $5?" argument brought back to life. On balance the gameplay per hour may be comparable, but the mobile devs think that a customer on the margins will simply be swayed by the price tag. I'm not so sure - if you can give the gamer things through a $40 game that they can't experience in an iOS title, they'll cough up the cash if the like the concept enough. |
