I really don't understand your irrational hatred of this game.
Neither do I.
It's a game with a half decent plot (that would have been fully decent had it been more serious in a more serious game or more ridiculous in this game), and non-stop over-the-top setpieces. Yes, they start a bit slowly, as they should, but about the time I got the damn remote controlled dinosaur I was laughing like a schoolkid. I stopped even hearing the swearing and just enjoyed an over the the top romp of destruction. It goes on from there, with body parts flying everywhere and enemies that I actually found a lot of fun to fight because they take a little bit of thought and aim.
I did bump into one invisible wall - it was the bottom of a staircase that was blocked up top, anyway, but I was irked that they didn't let me run up to where it was blocked. Other than that it's linear, sure, but not invisibly so, and I can't imagine how long it took to make these levels coherent.
And yes, the combat could be deeper - I'd have killed for them to add some kind of combo system (hello sequel!) but when you start getting guys that need to be leashed in order to take off armor, or guys that can only be hurt in certain areas, it makes you start thinking a tiny bit in your chaos, which is more than most games do.
I still don't get the comparison to the slide in Gears of War. That's about five feet, and it's wholly defensive. The slide in Bulletstorm can be near-infinite and it's offensive. I don't see a comparison. I also don't recall kicking anyone in Gears of War. Nor do I remember shooting much while moving. Or standing out in the open ever (in Gears you die in about 3 bullets, in Bulletstorm you're damn near an invincible god.)
Lastly, after finishing the game and playing the multiplayer, I think this could have worked co-op. I still get why they didn't do it with the campaign, but they could have artificially limited it by allowing you to only do co-op in echoes, similar to how MW2 had covert ops, or whatever they called it (which ended up being hands down the most fun I had in that game.) |
