Half-Life 2 Whodunit

The Boy Who Stole Half-Life 2 on offers the intriguing tale of the theft of the source code for Half-Life 2 back in 2003, a story replete with corporate intrigue, double-crosses, and a Tarantino-style flair for storytelling that begins at the end. The story explains who stole the source code, how and why he gained access to Valve's network, how the source ended up going public, and how the culprit was caught thanks to his own pride and na´vetÚ long after his trail had gone cold. The story has a reasonably happy ending where the game was released to great success and the culprit, who seems genuinely remorseful over the problems he caused, has apologized for his actions after two years of probation.

Only 2 years of slap-on-the-wrist, after what MUST have cost them HUNDREDS of millions of dollars in lost sales?

That's what piracy does, right?

Back the truck up... How does stealing the source code and then not compiling nor being able to play the game from that source code, cost hundreds of millions of dollars in lost sales?

Hint: He's being sarcastic. The HL2 source code was available for a year, and it still went on to sell almost 9 million copies. It just goes to show how retarded the cries of "Every pirated copy is a lost sale" are.
