Test Drive Unlimited 2 Fixes

A message on the Test Drive Unlimited 2 Forums from Atari's David Nadal, head producer on the racing sequel, has word from Eden Studios saying they have cleared up many of the the bugs and other issues in the recently released racing sequel (thanks Erik). Word is:

Thanks to TDU2's dedicated community, Eden Studios has been able to identify and address connectivity and DLC issues that some players experienced at launch and we are working around the clock to continue optimizing the game. As with many large multiplayer and MMO launches, the initial rush of new players into the game revealed a variety of issues that are now mostly addressed. Based on our interaction with the community, most of you should be able to play the game without issues. We value the feedback and will continue addressing issues around the clock. Thanks for your support and we'll see you in Ibiza.

Lure to TDU series is the open world driving and atmosphere.

TDU1 was fair, TDU2 is lesser.

Why am I posting in a TDU thread? shudderss..

right. People just get GT5(free DLC weekly, & monthly updates) , Shift2 (coming), and Dirt 3(coming), equipped with a good wheel and pedals, on the PS3, and avoid this 'game?' like the plague. Lol, I didn't think games could get worse than farmville and sims. People snap out of whatever it is your trancing about with TDU, this is an absolute insult to the Original Test Drive game , created nearly a quarter Century ago.

GT5 is an abomination compared to what they had been promising the past 5 or so years that they took to develop it. Plus it's on PS3 and not everyone has one.

Also, TDU has never been a simulation type game, always has been an arcade racer. Dirt 3 is going to be more sim than arcade, and I believe Shift as well. All are games in different markets. I own Forza 3 and am under no illusion that TDU was supposed to deliver the same driving mechanics.

Yeah I've figured as much. Usually people are providing feedback to developers from the beta.

There was plenty of feedback on the forums; trust me I did beta test the game.

I was hoping that all the things that were brought up during the beta would be fixed for launch, because ALL of these gripes WERE brought up by testers the whole long way... NONE of them got fixed for launch, and now Eden looks like shit because of it.

And I still punish myself by playing the game. Interesting how they published it at $40 for PC and $50 for consoles. It's like they knew they were releasing an unfinished game on the masses...

You know it is interesting how a racing game can be this bad after so many years of great progress in racing games and physics and everything else. I understand the social aspect they were going for in this game but what I don't understand is how can they fuck up the racing and the feel of the cars so much.

GRID that came out like 3-4 years ago handles and feels about 10X better than this game when it comes to driving.
On top of all that they release the game in half finished stage so even those few people that were interested in buying this will loose interest pretty quickly with the amount and severity of bugs in the game. Hard to believe this game had a beta on the PC. By the looks of it there was 0 feedback from testers or the devs just completely ignore the feedback all together.

What the fuck kinda car game is this.

As I quickly have come to find out this isn't a "car game" at all. This is, as someone rightly pointed out, the world's first 60 dollar Facebook game for multiple platforms.

The cars handle like boats and ignore the whiny bullshit of "People don't know how to setup their controls". Some of us do. FFB is utter shit, auto-center works about 40% of the time on my setup.

I gave up when I was racing in a straight line, without elevation changes, and the car just magically decided to start spinning wildly. It couldn't even figure out what direction it wanted to spin in. First, we were going counterclockwise and then, with an audio clip of the engine screaming, we immediately reversed and spun clockwise.

This all occurred without my feet on the pedals or my hands on the wheel. I thought it might have been some oddness with the wheel, so I restarted the race...same problem. Tried again with the 360 controller...same problem.

Eden had a great idea with TDU1 and they have completely lost the plot with the sequel. Few people give a fuck about dumping money on clothes to increase your douchebag level or plastic surgery to make the mannequin-esque characters in game look more like trolls and less like some creepy childhood nightmare generator.

Further, who really gives a fuck about owning nightclubs in a racing game? REALLY? Studio fucking 54?

like all the clothing, plastic surgery and such, even an 8 year old girl will get no more than 5 minutes of fun out of that, or barely works at all, like the casino that people can't connect to half the time, and when it works it robs you of your ingame money or your prizes disappear.

Plastic surgery?

here's a partial list of class B and above bugs currently present in the game:

Clutch and brake act as a digital switch, no auto-centering on most ffb wheels, can't remap shifter buttons or gps on x360 pad, can't zoom in or out of map with x360 pad triggers, severe distortion in the mirrors of several cars, the in-game vsync and AA cause abnormal performance drop as well as stuttering, the game messes up the windows 7 volume mixer every launch, online mode reduces performance up to 33%, saved games are getting corrupted left and right and there's apparently a bugged, game breaking car at one of the dealers.

Then there's the missing/cut out features like custom radio, trackIR, seat adjustment, car weight, and what they added is either completely worthless, like all the clothing, plastic surgery and such, even an 8 year old girl will get no more than 5 minutes of fun out of that, or barely works at all, like the casino that people can't connect to half the time, and when it works it robs you of your ingame money or your prizes disappear.

This is a complete mess and there is no chance that you played TDU1 at launch if you think it was half as disastrous as this.
Honestly I think Eden have much more important things to code in their attempt at a game before even considering looking at the servers.

And I have to add something: you can open and close your car windows, but there's still no wipers! this is totally unacceptable especially the second time, anyone who played TDU knows that the in-car view was in desperate need of a way to clean the windshield, and only absolute incompetence could possibly justify the decision of having working windows but no wipers.

It's TDU1 rehashed, basically. If you liked TDU1, you'll like this. If you didn't like TDU1, there's nothing new that will change your mind.

Problem is it's more like TDU1.3. They took out good features (ex. adj seat, TrackIR, mute chat, blur on/off, radio stations, ign sw) and put in gay Sims/social crap.

Not sure what racer crowd this game is aiming at, cross dressers?

Test Dress Unlimited 2. lol.

I've found TDU2 to be in much better condition than TDU1 was on release. It's not without flaws, and quite a few of them, but compared to many MMOs it is pretty smooth.

The game world is excellent and graphically, Ibiza and Hawaii look superb and are fun to explore. The world is a bit dead, not as bad as TDU1 but it still lacks life like NPC traffic (which exists, but is very light) and pedestrians (non-existant). The handling isn't great but acceptable, IMHO, and the different feel of each vehicle on different surfaces is nice. The plot is stupid, but it introduces you to different aspects of the game quite well and is otherwise ignorable. Have any racing games ever had a good plot?

One thing - how do you sell cars? In particular the trophy ones, like Miami's pink mustang thing? That's just wasting garage space.

I think the reduced number of NPC vehicles on the roads is a good thing. One of the problems with TDU1 was that NPC traffic got in your way too much when you were trying to complete an objective.

Problems I just saw while playing on my 360:

1. Still don't see any other drivers on the map.
2. Still don't see the pre-order car that I entered a code for
3. Still can't sell cars when I want (I have to fill my garages then try to buy another car)
4. Still can't access other parts of the game they've turned off

What a crock of shit. TDU1 never had the same issues that this game has had in it's run.

So the reports of this being The Sims: Cars are all correct?

Probably the better way to describe it is as a really polished Facebook game about driving. It's not bad per se - it's just disappointing, and a lot of potential that's there is clearly wasted. They emphasized the social aspect above the driving, and what could've been a more vibrant version of Burnout Paradise just turns out to be Need For Speed World with an insipid story tacked on.

Fantastic game. If only they'd get the servers back online again now.

I guess its nice to be able to run and use the game properly but many say TDU2 is a step back from the original in the important driving/handling part.

Those people are wrong, and probably haven't bothered adjusting their control settings.
