Ships Ahoy - Test Drive Unlimited 2

Atari announces that Test Drive Unlimited 2 has raced into North American stores, offering Eden Games' open-world racing sequel for Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Word is: "With incredible customization, an all-star line-up of vehicles, all-new race types, intense environmental challenges, exotic locations, sick soundtrack and much more, TDU2 pushes this epic franchise -- and online racing -- to new levels of performance." Here are some new screenshots and here is the launch trailer, which is also embedded below.

Looking around at early adopters, feedback on forums is not favorable. Only the hardened TDU1 fans seem to like it. Most others say its dated in many aspects, has dull handling and runs poorly for the visuals shown.

I loved the first one on the PC, and I never even went online.

Yet I love GT5 on PS3 too.

I plan on getting this for the PC as long as the reviews are tolerable. Then I'll play it when the wife is sleeping. (PS3 in bedroom.)

TDU was more like NFS than any of the past dozen NFS games.

That's why I liked it. As long as they've either improved or removed police chases, I'm sure this game will be fine.

Demand for this is really low from what i see at goozex. One of the most interesting things to look at is the requests/offers for games, you can see all that info for each game. When a big new release shows up there are usually 100+ requests in the first hour ready to spend points that instant. (usually takes a week before anyone offers it)

This game has 40 active requests after approx 12 hours. That's really bad. On par with "You Don't Know Jack". Two world has far more demand than this game...

you know your game sucks when you can't beat the physics of the Original Test Drive game on the Amiga 500, 23 years ago.

Are we gonna have people in the city this time around or will I be driving through a ghost town like the last game?

I'd be happy if the cars just don't drive like Matchbox toys on pivots.

They do handle like matchbox cars.

It's also pretty telling they canceled the beta test, it lasted all of about one week. In that week it suffered horrible FPS problems with zero settings turned up, no AA options, it only ran in window, etc.

It's a pity, I liked the first one and it was nice they had an enhanced driving model. They didn't seem to learn anything from the first game or subsequent racing titles. I'm sad to say Need for Speed cars handled more like real cars than in this game.

I never really liked the 1st game. Some of my friends loved it but I could never really get into it. The driving physics sucked balls imo compared to other racing games.

Wow, Atari must have no money left for PR. I had no idea from any sites or podcasts that this was anywhere near shipping yet.
