The Dead Space games play great on my console. Look great too! heheheh To bad more and more games are working better on the consoles.
I rarely play a game more than 10 minutes if you can't remap to the mouse. I have used walk forward on the RMB since someone shared their key setup for Quake at a tournament. It is liberating to free up your whole left hand for other functions, including but not limited to drinking a beer or eating while you are running across the map with full control.

And the same reason why it took laws to get telephone companies to install telephone infrastructure in rural areas. It's not economical to do so. No, I didn't. I'm saying that they probably just didn't think to add it. One of my best friends has MS, and he's one of those that has to use alternate mappings. He didn't even think that it was a malicious omission.
Let's be real--we're not talking alternate high contrast rendering for the colorblind here, we're talking a KEYMAP. in a lookup table. It's not even a full line of code that needs changing. Hardly something difficult to do. They just overlooked it. Fixed it. NBD.

Okay here it is, plain and simple.
12 things you need to have ready before you ship your game to PC users. Understand that these items are already expected by the game community, since the majority of PC gamers cannot get themselves a refund for your product if they are not happy. In no particular order:
1. A workable, playable Demo that is 100% representative of the game. Hell, make it timed shareware! All I need is 5 days...
2. Not having to continually authenticate your game with the Internet to play offline, and allowing us to uninstall/reinstall said game without limit.
3. Allow users to make mapping changes in as many combinations as available with a mouse, keyboard, joystick and yes - gamepad.
4. This game must feel as responsive with its controllers, as a natively developed PC game can naturally be.
5. Dedicated servers for multiplayer.
6. Allow for LAN matches when not connected to the Internet.
7. To have the game feel complete AS IS, without DLC. If there is DLC, the rule should be that it cannot splinter the multiplayer community. In other words, freely share that DLC with everyone, if it is a multiplayer mappack for example. I'm sure more people will flock to your game, if it's good enough...
8. Modding tools should be developed and freely sprinkled among the community to bring new life and breadth and length to their product.
9. If patches are needed, patches should be made.
10. Developers that care about their product should have meaningful discussions with the non-whining part of the gaming community to help figure out what to fix, what to tweak and how to effectively strengthen their franchise with the gamer base.
11. If the single player game/co - op game has a story, it follows that the story should be complete (aka, it should have an ending...).
12. The game should be stable enough not to crash. I know this one is open ended. The idea is that if a consumer buys the game, it should be a working game that they bought.
I know I left something out. Initially, this was only 3 points. I also know that a good number of these options will not happen again, because the publishers/marketers want to shape how you will spend more money on their game. I'm guessing they are doing this with DLC/no modding tools, as well as no dedicated servers for example (less/no control for the users). We can all dream, though.

WTF?
I can't remember the last time a game didn't allow basic things like "move forward" being mapped to the mouse. This is 2011, FFS. My first thoughts. But hey I'm glad they are on it as I have only just got to my suit & will now wait for this patch. |

| I doubt it was malicious but I cannot see how it wasn't intentional. Both Dead Space 1 and 2 have had these problems. It didn't take me long with Dead Space to search and find multiple people having the same problems. Intentionally lazy with the PC release. |

I've used RMB for forward since the days of DOOM. I wasted $50 on BF2142 only to find out that it doesn't allow this configuration, even after umpteen patches and me complaining to the devs. What a coincidence, it's an EA game too. Apparently mapping forward to RMB is too complex an engineering task for the EA dev teams to be completed by the initial ship date.
Maybe I should claim to be disabled and then they might actually patch it in?

| I'm not so sure guys. I think consoles have a positive effect on society at large. For instance, they keep delinquents on welfare off the streets and indoors. Where they do virtual killing rather than real killing. If you take away their Xbox, they will not substitute it with a PC and install all kinds of "gay" software. They will return to terrifying your neighbourhood. |

Lot of console games do this and have for years, first title I remember was KotOR. It's just more evidence of the total disconnect and incompetent game development. This is all part of and based on the m$ streamlined development schedule plan. Get the title out asap and remember our slogan "There's no difference between the console version and the PC version".
Obviously it's not just Disabled Gamers this effects, it's all PC gamers. It just took a obvious media disaster waiting to happen, (e.g. Disabled Gamers shunned and discriminated against by ea! Sign on to the Class Action Suit, asap!) to get this resolved. |
