BF2 Content in Battlefield 3?

A limited edition of DICE's upcoming Battlefield 3 will include reworked content from Battlefield 2, reports Computer and Video Games, saying this is based on a leaked advertisement for the LE of the military shooter sequel. They say this will include a Back To Karkland map pack to be offered to those who preorder this special edition that will eventually be offered as DLC or everyone else. Word is: "This themed expansion pack features four legendary maps from Battlefield 2 boldly re-imagined with frostbite 2 physics, destruction and visuals. Completing the package are classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, new Achievements/Trophies and more."

can't say i've ever bothered to play a mod in and BF games. I'd rather a more polished product or more content, than have amateur content from fans

Well, that's not good, the BF community appreciates mods, probably more than other communities out there.

I get that, and I would like mod support too, but I doubt it will happen. Activision release $15 map packs that sell 3-4 million, that's 60 million dollars.

We could be surprised, who knows, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Is anyone noticing that this is DLC, that the blurb on that ad hints this DLC will be paid after a certain time, and what this spells in terms of modtools?

In one single swoop, my hopes for BF3 having modtools or even being a great game went from high to very low.

Well they said there are no mod tools for BC2 because of the Frostbite engine... and this uses the Frostbite engine... sooooooo...

They should just pack it in on PC, there's no real resale market to worry about.

agreed. DICE has not learned from past experience. charging for maps shortened the shelf life of the special forces expansion pack because not enough people played it.

Shouldn't that have been obvious? Can't have people making and distributing new content for free. How would they sell inexpensively produced DLC, outfits and retooled/remade maps?

Actually... I suppose BC2:Vietnam is the exact kind of DLC I would purchase. What's the word I'm looking for... expansion pack.

I hope they aren't going to release 6 or so maps then spend the next 6 months releasing the same maps in different game modes or some shit like that. Build some new maps if you want to stagger out content over time, wasn't until the most recent update that brought in several maps from the first BC that anything felt "new".

Well at least they aren't really hiding the fact its a copy paste job from bad company and battlefield 2. (Exploding crotch graphic on the front cover, barely adding prone and more players features to bad company 2)

I hope that the new Frostbite tech allows the inner structure of a building to be blown up independently from the exterior. That always bugged me about how in BC2, explosions would "poke through" interior floors and walls for the purposes of killing a guy on the other side of the wall, but they wouldn't actually get a hole blown in them, and it wouldn't contribute to the destruction of the building.

(It was vital to understand these rather broken mechanics if you spent any significant amount of time killing people with explosives in BC2.)

If this is anything like BC2, the Limited Edition is all that's going to be on retail shelves for the first few weeks.
