Being able to build and publish multiple games across a decade or more is impressive, spanning multiple platforms, creating new IP's, growing a company as you go. All that does not get credited to PC gaming. I think you misunderstand why people consider him a douche, he makes a flippant remark about pc gamers, when they are a reason (not the sole reason) he is where he is. He didn't just wake up one day and start making games on multiple platforms and new IPs, it took many purchases from pc gamers like us to get him there. Companies rarely grow without revenue.

He didn't say any of that. He just said PC gamers are grumpy over there being no PC demo announced.
And he's right about that, although "grumpy" is being used as a nice way of saying "pretty pissed."

Another gaming company who got it's roots in PC gaming, is once again, crapping on the PC gamer? This isn't news, this is everyday. But, I bet those of you that have a Xbox or PS3 are going to rush out there and buy another of CliffyB's manly shoot-fests while he slaps your PC gaming and talks about how stupid console gamers are while he is counting all your money. "Console gamers will buy anything as long as they think their friends will say it's cool" CliffyB 2009 "PC gamers need to get out their Mom's basement once in a while" CliffyB 2008 "If you only knew how easy it was to pull this off. Just act like your cool and people will buy your games, even if it's the same rehashed garbage year after year." CliffyB 2010 |

This is a pretty dumb post because it's obvious to anyone with a brain that he's simply being flippant to the PC community and it wouldn't exactly be the first time either. Epic in general has not only been neglectful of the PC community over the past five years but almost hostile. That's fine though, they are feeding into the "PC = piracy" by doing this because it's essentially sending the message that they don't care about the platform and have no confidence in their product. They are basically forcing people who are interested in this product to either pirate it to check it out, buy it sight unseen or not purchase it at all. Guess which one people are going to do, especially after this kind of ridiculous message to the community. |

Seconded. It might be justified if all their games weren't rehashes of the original Unreal Tournament, but they haven't had an original idea since 1999. |

Give me a break. You know what he owes his life's work to? His last game. The industry does not forgive a bad game very often, in most cases if you screw something up, you're finished.

| What a prick - unlike the PS3 and 360, most PC gamers want to see if they have been arsed to make the game compatable with their hardware. If they can't even be arsed to release a demo, and they are this flippant over it, why should I be arsed about their product? I may look it up when it's in the bargain bins ... then again TPB probably have a copy selling cheap ! |

I used to be a CliffyB fan, especially BEFORE Gears. The guy was a modest designer for Unreal Tournament. Gears of War aren't bad games, but they're mostly console crap.
Sad to think a guy who owes his life's work to PC gaming can turn around and call them 'grumpy' because PC gamers have been shafted so much that they're smart about hyping games.
CliffyB: If you don't buy into hype and purchase games blindly, then you must be a grumpy PC loser.
Sad part is that Bulletstorm looks like the ugly bastardchild between modern Call of Duty and old Unreal Tournament, with boring results. Blow a guy's head up and then get +50 HEADSHOT!!! tattooed in the middle of the screen.

In short they don't give a flying fuck about PC gaming/gamers in general.
Edit: funny how they release the demo the same day Dead Space 2 ships |

It is a damn shame that the guys who made the UDK which is used in many indie games are also the biggest jackass assholes of the whole industry.
It just boggles the mind that they come on with such a supremely douche attitude yet they will complain about piracy at year's end because their game was pirated. And they will complain, regardless of how much pirated and how much sales the game did. It's as if not giving demos to the PC users is natural and they expect the game to sell despite that.
It's in situations like this that I truly wish the industry would come crashing down tomorrow because if there's one job where one should never have an ego is the job of a developer, and a lot of people in this industry need to eat a large dose of humble pie. |
