Yeah it's pretty cool, there's already a working PSX emulator. It's rough around the edges but still very neat. I just wish the PS3 had an actual hardware decoder chip for video, the SPE stuff is really confusing and probably means that no one will ever port XBMC to it.

Why do you need a PSX emulator? Mine still runs PSX games just fine. It's PS2 games that don't run.

They should have just left Linux on the thing.

That's actually what makes me just laugh at the whole thing. Sony wanted to be fucking jackasses by removing a feature that probably HELPED sell their console quite a bit, and so now their entire console is just raped.

I hope someone makes a firmware that allows for backward compatibility with the old titles again. (Likely it won't work for all of them, but hey, even some would be good.)

Stupid, stupid Sony. Maybe next time when you offer a well-liked feature, you'll think twice about just removing it on a whim, for basically no reason whatsoever? Morons.

There are already signed 3.55 custom firmwares out there that can load backups and homebrew. Someone also figured out how to edit the eboots of commercial games so that they run as PSN games right off the HD. You no longer need a jailbreak device, you can load custom firmwares off any USB drive or transfer games to the internal hard drive over the network. The barn door is wide open now. This is actually worse than 360 piracy which is very convoluted and requires a lot of micro-management, especially if you want to retain online functionality.

They should have just left Linux on the thing.
