Its a program called TreeSize that shows you gigabytes taken up by each folder (look at the screenshot to the right) in a nice graphical list format. You'll notice that the win 7 WINDOWS folder alone is going to be like 20 gigs or more, and thats not the only part of a windows install. Add in the rest of a windows install and you are talking 30 gigs or more.
If you run it you can see the biggest offending folders and perhaps prune some of it back. For instance I had a lot of extra crap in my temp folders, even after running the win 7 MS disk cleanup util. A big chunk was IE cache files that even the latest ie STILL won't delete even if you tell it to delete the cache.
Its an INCREDIBLY useful program to tell you where most of your space is being taken up and where you can do the most good. For instance, I saw my documents folder taking up a bunch of gigs. I drilled down and found out it was savegames from a bunch of games. So I freed up a bunch of gigs by removing savegames in the documents folders, putting them on my games drive, and putting junction links in my documents so all my games still think the saves are there when they aren't.

The other big (over 1 gig) subfolders of my windows are: another 7 gigs in winsxs folder, 3.5 gigs in system32 folder, 1.5 gigs in assembly folder, and 1.5 in sysWOW64 folder, and about 1 gig in Microsoft.NET.
I've done research on this since I have an SSD and I want to keep windows small so I can put a few games on it that I want to fast load, multiplayer games like Left 4 Dead 2.
I'll exclude the 6 gig pagefile file (since thats dependent on RAM size I have 6 gigs of RAM and disabling/deleting that causes performance problems) from your 5 gig total.
