| Did you try Charlie Foxtrot? Thing is with Arma 2 is the best games are organised beforehand due to the fairly low playerbase. |

| The lack of pvp is regrettable since pure deathmatch (without gamey systems like Warfare\domi gametype etc) in this game can be epic. The size of the terrain, the nature. It's survivalist. |

| At some point in time, Project Reality (of BF2) is releasing an Arma2 Op Arrowhead version of its mod. I am awaiting this as it should bring a great new PvP experience to Arma2. |

| I am still waiting on a good deal on Operation Arrowhead. The current 30% off or whatever is not good enough to make me pull the trigger on it. I have not put much time into the vanilla Arma2 don't really have many people on my friends list who plays that game regularly to try the MP, and SP isn't that interesting. Not yet anyways maybe later on gets a little better. |

| Ah, STEAM is just now starting to update my Arma 2. And as I figured, the several gig download begins. What really sucks about it now is I've bought several games in the past few days on sale that are also very large. I'll be lucky to have it all downloaded in a week or two. Just in time to go back to work. :/ |

But at least they give free maps/missions. Something very few devs are willing to do any more. BIS is one of the very few true PC devs left. Ive said it before: Trying to play a real PC game like ArmA 2 over steam is like trying to drive a car with square wheels. No sympathy from me.
Btw, ArmA 2 also loves SSDs. Fast ones even more. Its unbelievable how much of a performance boost it is. Even better than switching from a dual core to a quad core (which I also did).
But the thing is, no other game that I know of on steam (and I have a lot of games off steam) is like this. |

much improved since the original release of Arma2. graphics are much smoother, better lod switching, voices sound more cohesive and a lot of other polish.
still - they need to think about a new engine after carrier command, because the fidelity is lacking compared to other engines. i wish they would add euphoria and havok or some other middleware if they keep the same engine. |

Arma 2 is a really cool game, especially if you play some multiplayer servers that use custom mods/scripts. (Some of the RPG servers come to mind)
Really, no modern shooter can compare in terms of realism. Sure the graphics aren't Call of Duty, but the sheer scale of it all and attention to on-foot, wheeled and tracked vehicle, and aircraft simulation is simply wonderful.
For people new to the series I would recommend Operation Arrowhead. They enhanced the graphics in it and fixed some other bugs, I also think the single player campaign is tightened up more.
My only complaint, and it's a huge one, is that female models can't run or hold weapons. I understand Bohemia Interactive not having female ground troops, however they have LOADS of support units and convoys in which women soldiers DO operate in real life, not to mention the insurgent troops which should have no sex preference. Also there are plenty of female pilots in real life too, of course BIS is oblivious to this. BIS is just clearly sexist, really. |

| Arma 2 when first released had many issues. It's 1000x better now. Not perfect (the AI is still brain dead as hell) and you'll still need a high end machine to play it well but it's worth picking back up. The expansions are absolutely worth getting. |

Arma needs a good CPU, not just a good GPU. If you've upgraded both since then you'll probably be pretty pleased with it in it's current state.
I'm still using an old Intel Wolfdale dual-core, and I'm not buying any of the new expansions and DLC till I upgrade that despite having a REALLY beefy video card setup. I know once the AI kicks in in a firefight my frames are going to drop no matter what.
Edit - Keep in mind there's an Operation Arrowhead demo too. There's been some big patches since it, but it's not -too- far behind the current build. |

How good is Arma2?
When I first played it, it was vanilla Arma2 with no expansion or patches. It was rough and performance was awful. Now that it has been updated a lot and Santa is bringing me a new CPU, should I dust it off and try again? Is Operation Arrowhead worthwhile? |
