Haha, I see Notch from Minecraft contributed 2,000 on the Humble Bundle, nice.

That's a pretty classy move, really.

Buy it now when it's on sale, play it later when you have a more powerful PC with 7.
Wouldn't it be cheaper years later?

Maybe, who knows. Some things hold value or perhaps there is no profit to be had at a lower price. It's a damned good deal currently so it's not like you will be losing much.

I payed $15 myself. Anyone who pays 1 penny is a low life. There are indeed some very good games in there. Braid for one is well recognized. Osmos is a lot of fun. Revenge of the Titans is the coolest tower defense game ever lol.

But well worth what ever you choose to pay!

Put a dual boot win 7 with only just cause installed on it and keep using XP for 99% of your stuff?

If you're willing to pay for it sure. I have a single core PC (what are the odds that would need upgrading?) and I'll probably need a bigger HDD as well as Win 7. I cannot justify that amount of expense for one game

Yes. Search through blues or google, Gabe gave a talk where he showed that the volume of sales when they increase the percent discount goes up more than the "lost" revenue. i.e. the volume of sales increases enough so they make MORE when they drop the prices in a sale.

So for example selling 1000 copies at $20 is $20,000. Putting a sale on it to $10 if it sells 3000 copies thats $30,000 which is more because of volume. At $5 it might be 20,000 copies which is $100,000.

Anyway, gabe gave the percentage increases they were seeing as they discounted more and more. I think he used l4d1 or l4d2 as the example.

That model works well on steam because there's very little overhead compared to something like selling games at a retail store.

I ended up scooping Gothic II gold. I'll give that a whirl after I've exhausted Risen.

I tossed $75 into the Humble Indie Bundle 2, with $50 going to the EFF and Child's Play. An easy way to donate, and a great way to support the bundle.

For $7.50, everyone should have Just Cause 2. Incredible visuals and just a great game to jump into when you feel like just blowing shit up.

My guess is that they do make money. Indirectly also they are promoting PC gaming with these great prices and delivery system. They are expanding the customer (gamer) base. My guess is, and it's just a guess, that over time these sales have a snowball effect. Each riding off the last...

But I was thinking today that buying games at full release price is now just for those 'must have' games and otherwise it's assured that the price will drop a lot within a year. I'll leave it to them to price their product, but maybe some do lose some money on these sales. Hard to know.

THANK YOU STEAM!

I had been waiting for Metro 2033 to go on sale again, since I missed last month's sale when my Video Card combusted and my rig was out of commission for two weeks.

I always wanted to try it but didn't feel 40 bucks was a "Safe" price for a game that I heard was awfully linear and imbalanced (Just going by what I read on forums).

For 10 bucks though, I'm willing to take that risk. Heck, I bought Mount and Blade for $10 and L4D2 for $5, is anyone even making money off of these deals or should I feel guilty?

I hope there aren't a bunch of douchebags paying 1 cent like there were last year. I chipped in $20, there's some pretty cool looking games in there. Sadly my internet (local cable co.) has been shit the past few days, so I'll have to wait for it to clear up to download them.

Just Cause 2 - That's a great game for $7.50.

Has it improved since release? I played the demo and wasn't too crazy about it. It seemed like a game I could get into, but something was weird about the controls enough for me to pass on it.

If you can get a 360 controller, use that much better with this game than m+kb imo. Most times you will be in a vehicle of some sort and the controller is much better suited for the controls than a m+kb setup. Also 3rd person games feel better wit the controller for some reason.

I started w/ k+m and moved to a 360 controller. Other than aiming, the controller feels better. Cars still feel a bit off (like driving on ice), but I'll make due...

There are some mods that clean up the car handling, especially for the sports cars. Check out www.justcause2mods.com.

And I guess I can forgive you your controller heresy, nin.

I always thought Just Cause 2 being DirectX 10 (and above) exclusive was a bad idea. It certainly couldn't have helped any.

It didn't help. An Eidos earning report recently stated that Kane & Lynch 2 (a game I personally completed in 3 hours and was pretty meh) outsold Just Cause 2 by a ratio of 2:1. That's a crying shame for Avalanche studios, because I consider Just Cause 2 the best sandbox game of the year (along with Minecraft, but they're different games).

PHJF wrote on Dec 14, 2010, 22:28:
Just Cause 2 looks fucking gorgeous on a PC. If you've got something equal or better to a GTX260, get the PC version and crank the visuals to orgasm level.

It does indeed. At least technically speaking, it has to be the best console port I've ever seen. The only minor issue I had was slight negative acceleration with the mouse but apart from that, you can tell that they really put in some work into the PC version. Heck the graphics programmer kept adding new console commands into the game months after it had released.
