I thought stealth made Crysis, but that's the kind of stealth I like. I don't like sneaking past people, I like sneaking up and destroying them (hence why my Oblivion character was an ogre warrior that led the thieves guild.) Stealth is fun when the AI is believable and offers a challenge. Unfortunately, the AI in Crysis failed in both regards.
Examples:
1) Turn invisible right in front of an enemy. Typically they'll stop shooting and slowly walk forward. A much more logical and natural reaction would be to retreat while firing in the general direction of the enemy and try to find a defensive position where you can't be flanked. 2) Turn invisible and shoot the wall behind an enemy. The enemy spins around and stares at the bullet hole for a minute. 3) Climb up to a guard tower, turn invisible and snipe enemies. They'll typically run back and forth and be retarded. 4) Enemies don't seem to care when they find the dead bodies of their friends. On most occasions, they'll just walk right past them.
Aside from the shoddy AI, stealth in Crysis suffered from being overly simplistic. You press a button and poof, you're invisible. You can walk right up to an enemy's face and they won't see you. You don't have to worry about line of sight, light/shadow, sound, disguises or anything else that makes stealth gameplay interesting. |

| I think the Entrenchment expansion is a must for SOASE. It added some nice additional options that are great even if you only play single-player like I do. The Diplomacy expansion didn't seem worth it to me for single-player, so I never got that one. |

| I really like SoaSE. It's a bit slow going at points, but really well done. I don't think the expansions added that much. Frankly I could have done without them. I play single or skirmish almost exclusively, and it works great for those. |

While Amnesia is definitely worth more, $10 is an ideal price point for people on the fence. Like me! I've heard so little about this game but saw a few tidbits about it here a while ago and told myself to take a closer look at it but never got around to it. This article has reminded me once again and for $10 I'm gonna go ahead and get it. |

If you haven't played it yet, you should definitely play on the highest difficulty and avoid using the stealth mode, as it pretty much breaks the game's stupid AI. I think I've been heckled here for telling people not to play FEAR with bullet time because it ruins the decent AI by letting you kill them instantly.
I thought stealth made Crysis, but that's the kind of stealth I like. I don't like sneaking past people, I like sneaking up and destroying them (hence why my Oblivion character was an ogre warrior that led the thieves guild.)
The only real stupidity I saw in the AI, and I only remember this from Crysis Warhead, was the amount of times I turned a corner and found a guy standing with his back to me and his nose to the wall. Sometimes I mistook them for dead bodies that fell against the wall, only to notice them scratch their ass. |

Also, as some others said, screw the haters: Crysis was great. Yeah, some of the later levels sucked, but that doesn't make the earlier levels and less awesome. Compared to something like Call of Duty it's a masterpiece of FPS design. Same with Far Cry 1. I remember it had good mods and maps from its community. Is that the same for Far Cry 2 and Crysis? |

HOLY SHIT IS THAT CRYSIS WARHEAD FOR $10? OMG SOLD SOLD SOLD!!! Bought this two weeks ago for the same price from Amazon.
Don't care what anyone thinks. I loved it. Short, but awesome. Outside of the hour in the middle of a zero g mountain I loved Crysis, too. I have way too much fun sneaking up, shooting people, going into camo, running behind them, shooting them again, etc.
Plus few games give me good stories like these have. Like this one: I had just blown a whole bunch of people up, as well as a two tanks, when I got a message to go to a flight control tower. Looking at my map it was like 3/4 of a mile away. So I grab an APC and drive, dodging tanks. I drive by plenty of rocket launchers making me think the game wants me to fight my way there, but eh... driving is easier. Until the APC is smoking near the tower. I jump out, run around a corner and cloak. A few troops round the corner and I pop them in the head. Meanwhile rockets keep whizzing by me. I run even further from the battle, behind a few buildings, and encounter a hummer. I cloak, put a bomb on the back, uncloak and blow it up with a smile. This brings more troops my way, so I throw a grenade, cloak, seek cover, pick off the survivor. Running to the tower I jump two stories onto a roof and snipe the two rocket guys and some of their friends. The area seems secureish, despite yelling, so I start climbing a huge ladder. Not smart; I should have wandered first to see who was where or if there was a better method of reaching the goal. 5 or 6 guys are behind me shooting as I climb this huge tower. Even though I'm on hardcore, though, they can't kill me. Their bursts take me to 19 or so health but then the regen kicks in. I should have died, but I'm not questioning it. I get to the top, see that there was a staircase (doh!) throw a claymore on it so no one can come behind me, then pick off the dudes at the bottom of the ladder.
It was about 15 minutes of chaos I was orchestrating. And it was awesome. Even if the game is too dumb to let me look directly up which almost stopped me from advancing at one point.
Good FPS games give you great stories about dumb choices you made and how you made them work. These are good FPS games. I still need to finish my original Crysis. Argh! Same. |

While I wouldn't call it better than AC2, it certainly is a very nicely made game that unfortunately no one played. The Saboteur is indeed a great game. I only played to halfway through but I definitely intend to play more someday. It's like Assassin's Creed only more fun.

I was waiting on Amnesia to get a boxed version like the Penumbra games, but maybe I should just get it now at $10. |

If you like sandbox action games with vehicles, platforming and stealth elements, you'll like Saboteur. Many times better than AC1 & 2. I wouldn't call Mirrors Edge underrated. Everyone seems to like it well enough, it's just that for some reason it didn't get the sales it deserved. Great game though, and well worth the price.
