World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Launch

Today is the launch of the new Cataclysm expansion for World of Warcraft, Blizzard's all-conquering MMORPG. There were midnight launch events in the wee hours, and if you missed out, you can relive the magic by opening all your windows and watching the video on GameSpot or the video on OC Register. There's a report on the launch in the U.K. on MCV. There are First Impressions on PC Gamer where they also have 15 reasons to play Cataclysm. There's also this trailer (NSFW) with a clever music video about the add-on's cataclysmic events, with apologies to R.E.M. Thanks Ant.

I second that

There's already a business that follows this model. It's called the military.

My GOD! I just had a brainwave.

I'll start a buisness. Everyone I hire, I will title as Level 1 Peons/Widgeteers/Treeslayers/Code Warriors/etc.

For every set amount of time they clock, call it a full Quarter or whatever, they gain a level. When they complete a project, they get loot - an upgraded keyboard, a better pen, maybe a chair that doesn't make their legs go numb or their back hurt so much. (Or maybe I just throw some glittery crap on it, add some spikes or LEDs or something.)

Oh, and "higher level" workers get a better dress code. Noobs have to wear coveralls. Top level people get tuxedos with built-in special effects.

People who take sick days or vacation get a negative modifier on their earned "XP".

I mean, it's just a rough idea - I'll have to hammer out the details...maybe even pay them...

Yep, one of my WoWaholic friends did that. I was suprised that WoWaholic coworkers came in today. Haha. I am WoW free since I haven't touched it for years. I ain't got free time and don't want to give Blizzard more of my $$!

The new Goblin quests are fun. Many of the quests are a big leap from the kill 10 rats type quests.

As I understand it, Cataclysm is something like a reboot for the whole WoW game. The experience playing from beginning to end has been "updated" and changed in a way that makes the game "different".

Which is like a crushing defeat for my hopes of getting an MMO from blizzard that I want to play. (space/starcraft/future stuff) So we're stuck with Wow forever...fuck me.

Yeah... It was obviously a poke at gaming productivity with an instant reward versus the real world where people due the bare minimum and can't wait to get out of work. As in people spend eight hours not getting much done for money but will be up twenty hours working as hard as possible paying somebody else.

@JoeNapalm You need to change the way you think. Do you think people would work for developers if they were getting paid so little or if it did not benefit them in some shape or form? If EA did this, they-the peons- would go somewhere else. If that place stopped paying them for their services, they-the peons-would go somewhere else or better yet, start a company and become the most hated boss of the peons. Your mindset will never let you get pass working hourly for a wage. This is from my heart dude, your thinking limits your potential.

This is from my heart dude, you taking things too seriously limits your potential.

Using sick days or vacation should offer a positive XP modifier. Just saying.

You don't have it tied to your battle.net account, but if you used them to play online before they are still attached to your old account(email) until you hook them to the bnet. Basicly you can't sell a CD key once it's used for an MMO.

WOOHOO! Bejeweled 3 is out!!
p.s I sold my WOW battlechest yesterday, ( I only played it for 1 day back in the day) and the guy who bought is says my keys are activated. I logged into my battle.net account, and I have no WOW game associated to my account.
What gives? does my game all of a sudden no longer exist?
