Diablo III Date? New Blizzard Game Revealed?

A post on MMOGameSite.com offers what is purported to be a leaked product slate from Blizzard, though this not confirmed to be genuine, and the leak is attributed to a "gamer, speaking on condition of anonymity," which raises the question of how such a document fell into the wrong hands. Questions about its authenticity aside, the image says the schedule is "as of 04/02/10," and it includes release windows (presumably tentative, even if they are accurate) for a number of projects, including a Q4 2011 release for Diablo III followed by expansions in Q2 2013 and Q4 2014. It also lists a Q4 2011 window for StarCraft II expansion 1 as well as SC2 Phoenix and a Q1 2013 window for the second expansion for the RTS sequel. There are two World of Warcraft expansions listed, one in Q2 2012 and another in Q4 2013, as well as listings for a WoW TCG (Q3 2012) and the WoW movie (Q4 2012). Finally, there is also a listing for an unannounced project called Titan in Q4 2013. Thanks Gamer's Hell.

I stand partially corrected then

But.....a simple google check reveals the date when Activision has its quarterly reports...the last Q42009 financial report done at the end of its fiscal year was made on March, 1st, 2010.

heroin posted a bunch of useful info about new WoW

I appreciate you taking the time to do that write up. Unfortunately that doesn't really sound appealing to me, I have to go with Mash on this one, it sounds like removing any semblance of challenge or effort in favor of an almost too accessible format and homogenizing the gameplay quite a bit. I'm sure that has an appeal to some but I just prefer a different style I guess. But thanks nonetheless, it was an interesting read.

Not always. At two jobs I was at, Q4 end used to be the fall of the year, around October.

a Q4 scheduled release for D3 Chapter 1 of 4, can only mean one thing. That the game will be out 2 years later after many many delays.

Just add + 2 years to every scheduled release date on this tablet, there fixed.

Although, a Q4 2011 D3 release, will make for a very MERRY Xmas 2011.

Blizzard, when you do officially announce a set date for D3 release, pls announce it 3 months in advance, so I can plan my 2 year Sabbatical accordingly, kthxbye

You do realise that company Quarters are a little different from the standard julian calendar. Correct me if Im wrong but the end of Q42011 corresponds to a spring 2012 date...

Drop D3 in toilet then take a dump on it- There's your Uwe Boll D3 flick.

I've actually seen a quite entertaining/sick movie of Uwe Boll not too long ago called Rampage.

Yeah, he seems to learn. Still I wouldnt trust him with anything yet.

Radical thinking ahead... Titan is an MMO set in fictional ancient Greece with all the fun Greek Gods and such.

That would be neat.

I still think Titan is going to be a MMOFPS.

The dates are all a good educated guess. Nothing that anyone else couldn't make. Regardless, not even Blizzard knows it's ready. I'll hazard a guess and say D3 will be out earlier.

Personally after all the time in the beta, 2 new characters leveled from 1-85(priest and warlock), and 2 characters leveled from 80-85(mage and shammy), I simply thought that the new mechanics sucked. Everyone has the same builds, and so on. Exp was reduced again for 1-60, and again for 60-80. With the new boa gear, and being in a guild with the exp bonus it's possible to get a 55% exp bonus.

There's no real feeling of reward for work done, rather it's handing you a reward because *clap* you were there. To make that clearer, it's because it seems that what little leveling curve there was, is completely gone. The changes are nice sure, but it's not the game I started playing, or was enjoying. Personally for me TBC was the peak in good game play, and leveling. I simply found cata too easy, including the raids.

Anyway most people I've played with over the last 6 years, including people I played with in the vanilla beta have quit. I'm sure I'll get the urge to play every now and then, but for all intents I'm done with it.

"can you elaborate a bit on what you mean by it feels like Diablo now? Do you mean the pace of combat and whatnot? How are the instances different? What hours did you put into those leveling sessions?"

There are more than several tweaks to combat, gameplay and the interface. Gameplay is much quicker - players seem to do more damage and get effective exp for kills. Also, the design of some of the classic instances helps the experience have a faster feel as the designers cut out a lot of the fat content no one ever utilized and streamlined the process with quests inside the instance entrance and also being about to complete quests right after you kill a boss and begin the next quest without having to go back. This is not true for all of them - I ran Blackrock Depths and it seemed pretty much unchanged although there were 4 quest-givers at the entrance - I still had to run back to them later on (but it did go by MUCH quicker). Boss fights in some of the early level instances were pretty awesome - Deadmines comes to mind for sure. They cut out a lot of the crap level design, even walking to the ship and fighting up to the top of the ship is much much shorter. Both the boss and trash fights are fun and there are new bosses that actually have some pretty good moves (you can run Deadmines in like 15 minutes now I think I ran that instance 4 or 5 times. Needless to say I was disappointed when I got to level 20 and could no longer go there (it's a lot of fun).

At this point I'm all about the streamlining of WoW - half the time I auto-run - but no you can even click on a far away NPC and the character will run to the character to turn in the quest without having to sit there and physically do it. They cut out the bullshit with the talent-trees and they pretty much hold your balls through the process (to piss off all of those mathematical geniuses out there), got rid of many bullshit abilities. When you "ding" the screen will display what is now available, if you have new skills at the trainer or not and if you received a talent point. I definitely don't feel like my Hunter's rotation feels as powerful as before but I still welcomed the change to figure it out all over again (lot's of aimed shots to increase focus). I trust Blizzard knows what they are doing for the overall enjoyment of the game so I don't complain like a lot of annoying assholes out there.

A lot of the fat quests - gone. The zones I mentioned - Blasted Lands and Swamp of Sorrows have been streamlined to an effective degree. The quests are more interesting and less grindy. Most of the time they ask for #X and #Y you will find #x on each kill instead of having to grind an area forever waiting for drops. Saves lots of time and hassle. Each quest giver gives about two quests - you finish those two quests and it opens two or four more (with the addition of another questgiver). With less quests the rewards are bigger - you level 25% quicker and the quests more interesting. Not to mention that many of the new enemies in the changed classic zones are pretty badass and the new cosmetic changes are nice. Blasted Lands has a couple of new areas - a Tainted Forest (with some BC creatures in it) (that is currently under-utilized) and a shoreline where Murlocs are being used to cart treasure to a cave as slaves. Once you finish the quests in an area you might be cannonballed to the next zone to begin a new questline there. You will be flying through the air (without a mount) in this one.

With my rogue I can pretty much two shot any non-instance mob. It's easy leveling - but supposedly the combat in the instances will require more attention to CC & threat as it used to be while the combat is much more intense & fast paced.

I spent about 20 hours total playing this weekend - I remember it used to take about 2-3 hours to level - I gained 8 levels on a newb rogue and 8 hours on my hunter. You do the math. Once I started running Deadmines I gained three levels in a very short time. So, you can either choose to see new quest content (which contains some good stuff) or you can choose to powerlevel in the instances (which are awesome). I like the new areas, the new quests but F-it - I'd rather just keep running these changed instances.

I've only played little bits here and there so I've only touched the tip of the iceberg I'm sure- but most changes I've seen have been welcomed - to F&^King awesome.

I believe the D3 date is, unfortunately, unrealistic.

I got the sense from Blizzcon that they are no where near finished with the content or the games internal systems. The fact that they were unable to answer many questions at the Q&A except by saying the "we're still thinking about it" standard response was discouraging. Add to that at least 6+ months of alpha/beta'ing before release. Q4 2011 is too soon; a release one year or so from now? Not going to happen.

"BNet2 Third Parties" could be the most interesting thing on that slide. I wonder if they are going to finally make proper client software and take on Steam. It would sure as hell keep things interesting on the PC and Blizzard are historically pretty good about supporting the Mac too. I can only see it as a good thing, even with Bobby Kotick somehow involved. More competition keeps Valve on it's toes and ensures better prices for everyone.

This sounds like bull crap.

The dates seem about right. I was guessing that D3 would come out earlier but the dates for the other stuff was already hinted at.

I remember reading that they were working on 5 projects which were WoW Cat, D3, and SC2. There are still two games they haven't announced yet.

The combat in the new Cataclysm patch feels more like Diablo - shit has gotten intense

Alright I'll admit this has me intrigued, can you elaborate a bit on what you mean by it feels like Diablo now? Do you mean the pace of combat and whatnot? How are the instances different? What hours did you put into those leveling sessions?

Uhhm, either you are using a script to change the quote reference name for you, or you manually did it yourself. Either way, i don't get why bother...

Helps me for context at a glance but meh, I didn't know it bugged you so I'll stop. It's certainly not something we need to clutter up the thread with anymore, if you want to discuss it further then feel free to toss me a PM.

I hope this is untrue because my life would go to shambles. I caved ovar the holiday and wasted three entire days on new content, but I must admit - it was so much fun! The combat in the new Cataclysm patch feels more like Diablo - shit has gotten intense. I ran through Deadmines, Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns and Shadowfang Keep over and I was blown away. I also had the chance to run through entire quest lines in certain zones - Swamp of Sorrows and Blasted Lands rocked the whiskers off even jesus christ himself. I also leveled a lvl 12 character to 26 and a level 53 to 61 in a relatively short time period... could have been even shorter if I just kept running instances which are definitely much quicker and much more addicting now. I'm looking forward to forgetting about my lvl 61 character, rolling another toon for Horde and seeing everything from beginning to 53 and then getting my 80s to 85.

This shit seriously rocks - I can't wait for Diablo III, but I can.

WoW is only up to its 3rd expansion in 6 years. Everquest has had 17 expansions over a period of 10 years. You can call it milking when WoW gets up to double digits.

EVE has 14 expansions in 7 years.. all of them free. No milk!
