Out of the Blue

We had a fine old time for Thanksgiving yesterday, with good food, good company, and even good football. Today, of course, is Black Friday, where shopping rules the day, so if you are a participant, here's hoping you won all your tugs-of-war over scarce items, and you managed to avoid being trampled.

However, yes, America does have a major problm with portion control that you just don't find anywhere else to boot.

Really?

So then why is America not the "fattest" country, and so many other countries about the same?

Yeah or someone ordering a Triple Baconator combo with a everything potato with 3 or 4 butters and sour creams, then getting a diet coke. You just look at them and wonder if it bothers them that they are morbidly obese.

I worked as a busboy at a casino buffet one summer after graduating high school, it is disgusting how much food is wasted.

The odd thing is, I prefer to eat at an all-you-can eat buffet, because I can just get a little bit at a time until I'm full and not have extra food on my plate that will be thrown away. Then I look around and see everyone else talking all-you-can eat literally and bringing plate after plate of food piled high and cramming it in their face hole.

If I'm with family or meeting friends for lunch or something, I'll get a to-go box and take my leftovers with me. When I go out for the night with friends to eat and other things, it's not practical to get a to-go box and lug it everywhere for the rest of the night. I either stuff it all down and feel like crap or eat what I want and feel guilty for letting the rest go to waste.

Well, a better way to go is you can take what you like, but you eat what you take. As someone who works in hospitality I can tell you the sheer volume of waste in 1 restaurant per night is abhorrent. Now multiply that North America, Europe, Asia and Australia and it boggles the mind that anyone could ever go hungry anywhere, much less starve. There's so much waste its a moral crime IMO. However, yes, America does have a major problm with portion control that you just don't find anywhere else to boot. It never ceases to amaze me the size of the portions, or deals that encourage gluttony, all over the U.S.. So many places I've ate I feel like asking why they don't just serve people in troughs.

I must be broken because I always feel like shit when I eat a lot. I hate to go out to eat some times because I feel like I have to eat everything that comes with the meal, and then I feel like shit after I eat it. I blame my parents, for that old "you better clean your plate because there are starving children in Africa" guilt line.
