many parapsychologists speculate that the modern phenomena of UFO abduction is similar hallucinatory phenomena to old stories of fay creatures |

Well said, but quite like the WoW topic, the amount of people who are REALLY aware of the dangers that Facebook poses are the minority. And in this case, you can be assured its not my intention to insult you. What i am Insulting is, the famous "sheep herd" of uninformed "me-too's" - of which on Facebook are about 590 Million.
What you are doing is "using" facebook for your own gains while knowing what not to do on it, and thats commendable. But sadly, that is not how the general public thinks or acts |

I've no idea why people believe that facebook is the (only) platform of choice for any social activity, be it promote your [whatever], keep in touch with family and friends etc. etc.
Fact is, because of its 600+ million users FB has become THE primary target for all kinds cyberattacks such as the one reported here and your data are all but safe on FB. But why am I talking about this when people have been brainwashed beyond repair anyway. |

I agree that facebook has its issues, but I find it a very useful tool for promoting and managing my band, as well as a good way to stay in at least some kind of meaningful contact with people who are dear to me but happen to live in other countries and cities. All of my facebook friends are also my real-life friends or at least aquaintances. I tend not to take insults like this seriously, but I think that calling the entire facebook community retarded is taking it a little bit too far.
I agree that facebook has its issues, but I find it a very useful tool for promoting and managing my band, as well as a good way to stay in at least some kind of meaningful contact with people who are dear to me but happen to live in other countries and cities.
Also I think that the sensible use of facebook is not very difficult and those who do find it hard or can't really control themselves and end up screwing themselves over because of it have only themselves to blame and deserve what's coming to them.... |

Well, as a European I can agree with that
I kinda like the old lore we got here though. Fun-fact, you think fairies are tiny little winged creatures? In old Germanic lore fairies are literally demons with wings stealing children in the night. Remember that when you tell a child about the tooth fairy...
That said - I could have sworn moon calf was a well known insult. Bleh, i am getting old. |

Well, shows that European lore is at least good for some things, particularly insults!
That said, haven't heard anyone saying it here a while now... |

Glad to have extended your insult knowledge
But seriously, isn't mooncalves common knowledge? At least with this meaning -> a person who spends time idly daydreaming.
Oh well ;p |

Mooncalf was a term formerly ascribed to the abortive fetus of a cow or other farm animal, and also occasionally to that of a human.
The term arose from the formerly widespread belief, present in many European folk traditions, that such malformed creatures were the product of the sinister influence of the moon on fetal development.
Mooncalf is used as a derogatory term to indicate someone is a dullard, fool or otherwise not particularly bright or sharp. For example, W. C. Fields in "The Bank Dick" (1940) advises his prospective son-in-law to avoid being a "mooncalf" by buying shares he has been beguiled into believing are worth much more than the proffered price. |

What part about facebook is a trusted community? A community of social moon-calves is not trusted, it's one to be avoided at all cost.
And I for one, am avoiding it at all cost |
