Witcher 2 Preorder Response

The good old gamers at GOG.com report a rousing response to their recent announced preorders of a DRM-free edition of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, CD Projekt's upcoming RPG sequel. Here's a bit: "Since our announcement on Thursday, GOG has been seeing an incredible and enthusiastic response from members of the community, gamers on the Internet, and blogs and press outlets everywhere. Thanks so much for your interest and support, and thanks for all your (many, many!) preorders."

The Witcher is well worth $20. Hell, it's worth $50. If you enjoy RPGs with morally ambiguous choices, you should definitely play The Witcher.

I concur. I finished the game multiple times and although the first few hours might be tiresome, it eventually turns into one hell of a great experience.

The frustrating but also very good thing of The Witcher is that 9/10 times you've no idea who to side with, simply because there's no black and white in this game. Only shades of gray. It's epic.

As for Verno's little bla bla, I know it has me on ignore.. it still felt good to let out some steam. I definitely know I'm a whiner and an ass more often than I want, but that guy just rocks the charts. No matter. All is said in my tipsy state. ^^

He's on ignore, I don't even see his responses Bob, don't worry about it. If he wants to waste time having creepy one sided e-fights by himself then let him. It's better than him badgering other people

Not sure if I should cave in and buy the game for $20 or just wait for Witcher 2. Reading the reviews on Witcher 1 it looks like it is a decent game but I guess there were some sales when you could buy the game for $10 instead of $20 which is the current price on Steam and D2D.

Definitely wait for a sale. Every time there is a big Steam sale you can pretty much guarantee that two things will happen: The THQ bundle will be up there somewhere and The Witcher will be on sale.

I wasn't hurt. A tad drunk, though. Oh well, can't say I disagree with my drunken self. That whole superiority illusion thing was pretty solid.

I'm inclined to agree with Vern here. I thought The Witcher was great but not because of the combat. If Witcher 2 offers deeper, more challenging combat, I'm all for it. However, I'm definitely not for the Quick Time Events that have been revealed thus far.

Whatever, Verno. I don't really care what others think of me right now, but I personally think the negative crap you spew around here has become more than tiresome.

You maybe didn't like the swordplay. I think it was a proper system that portrayed how overpowering a witcher is against regular fighters/monsters.

I loved The Witcher's atmosphere, story and whatnot but the combat was beyond awful. The swordplay especially was something like what a college kid would design for a portfolio.

After all this talk about this game, I've decided to try the demo yesterday. I've never played the first game.
Anyways the demo ran fine on Win7-64 and it looks surprisingly good too for a game this old. I normally do not like RPG games but I did enjoy the demo. Did not have time to finish it last night, will do it probably tonight.

Would the last person left alive be a solipsist? Not necessarily, because for the solipsist, it is not merely the case that they believe that their thoughts, experiences, and emotions are, as a matter of contingent fact, the only ones that can exist. Rather, the solipsist can attach no meaning to the supposition that there could be thoughts, experiences, and emotions other than their own—that events may occur or objects or people exist independently of the solipsist's own experiences. In short, the metaphysical solipsist understands the word "pain" [i.e., someone else's], for example, to mean "one's own pain"—but this word cannot accordingly be construed to apply in any sense other than this exclusively egocentric, non-empathetic one."

I'm going to start playing The Witcher again.

This time I intend to finish it. I also think it'll be more interesting having read the two translated books since most of the characters are in the books.

Enhanced Edition retail with 1.5 patch and Director's Cut. Getting the game patched up was pretty annoying though as apparently both the 1.5 patch and the DC I got from CD Projekt itself were corrupted. But I only discovered that after trying 4 other troubleshooting tips. Also I'm pretty sure I now have Tages on my system (even Windows 7 bitched about, something along the lines of "we're disablin' some bad shit automatically for you".

Really not missing the pre-Steam patching days.

I was going to play AND FINSIH it as well. I think I restarted 2-3 times, and then something else caught my attention. Sometime around the holidays I will bash and slash through it.

Well that is understandable but ever since Blizzard is pwned by Activision which in turn is pwned by Vivendi i have little hope that they will ever turn around to friendliness again.

Its just gonna be a downhill race now.

For me, CD Projekt stands alone; far above other studios. I like Valve, but they have totally screwed the pooch with the Half-Life series and have turned TF2 into a storefront. I like Blizzard, but they have eliminated LAN play, have extremely restrictive control over community content, and are rapidly going in the wrong direction with Blizznet. Stardock has apparently forgotten how to launch a game and Brad really needs to stay quiet.

Even though their ill-advised PR stunt from a while back pissed me off, I just can't stay mad at them - CD Projekt rocks!

This makes me happy to be of Polish decent. It's nice to see that current generation Poles over at CD Projekt have minds and souls of generous people, as are most people in this culture. Unlike the (censored) bean counters over at EA and friends. I have nothing against other nations, for I am not a racist, I happen to hate everyone equally.

Dziekuje / Thank you CD Projekt, I look forward to buying all your games at GOG.
Google translate says it's "dzienkuje" for "thank you." This has been a public service announcement to feed my need to be right.

How is Blizzard ultra PC friendly? The Blizz-drones already forgot how Blizz raped them over with the SC2 DRM, broken custom map browser, no lan play or the split of 1 game to 3 full price releases?

I swear reality distortion fields are not only common at apple, they seem to exist for blizz-drones as well.
No reality distortion field here. I agree with you, but I can't forget Blizzard for their past friendliness. Starcraft 2 is the first venture into unfriendliness.
