TF2 Maintenance Tuesday

The Team Fortress 2 Blog announces plans for Team Fortress 2 scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, and while the teamplay shooter will still be playable while that's underway, certain features will be unavailable until it is complete. Here's word:

This coming Tuesday November 9th, 2010 the TF2 item system will be down for maintenance starting at 1pm PST and ending at approximately 2:30PST. We are significantly increasing the amount of database horsepower behind TF2 to accommodate all the recent additions to the system. During this maintenance the following TF2 features will be unavailable:

        > Backpacks
        > Crafting
        > Trading
        > The MannCo store
        > Loadouts

The game itself will continue to work. All players will have their default appearance and weapons.

To keep abreast of the status of this and future TF2 item maintenance, subscribe to this thread in the TF2 forum.

Note to developers using the TF2 Item Web API: As part of this maintenance all item IDs will change to eliminate negative IDs. We will be shifting all item IDs forward by 2100000. Depending on what data you store in your database, you may need to do the same.

I understand where you're coming from, but I can't get mad at a server admin for enforcing their own rules. I'm not sure I'd want my kid to play in an environment where potty mouthing was the general rule, regardless of my acknowledgment of the fact that they will hear those words elsewhere.

I don't see a problem with that.

It is a g-rated place. A lot of people have their kids play there, and they don't want your mouth running like that when their kid is playing.

I actually play more g-rated places than adult places. The swearing and conversations become toxic to the point of you can't even enjoy the game.

The game is still fun. You can still rock with default weapons. People complain too much. You don't have to touch any of the new stuff if you don't want to.

Is TF2 positioning to become an MMO? Maybe as a spin-off? Seems like they are testing some distinctly MMO features... microtransactions, crafting, trading, and achievements were already there. Interesting. I think it should definitely stay an FPS, even with these features... but maybe Valve is considering a separate MMO project.

Come play AiF at 8.6.74.61:27015

Fills up most nights (24).

Their second server at 8.6.75.102:27015 was set to manor for halloween.

They aren't super serious but some people there are pretty good. No micspamming, no fast respawn, voterocking, no custom maps.

I can hardly find 2 servers that have fast_respawn disabled and the filter doesn't work for this either.

I don't know what servers you all are playing but the ones I frequent (no remorse) have some pretty pitched battles which are a lot of fun most nights.
