EA Financials

Electronic Arts Posts Smaller Second-Quarter Loss has quarterly financials for Electronic Arts saying the company's net loss narrowed to $201 million (61 cents a share), from a loss of $391 million ($1.21 a share), a year earlier, and: "Excluding some items, profit was 10 cents a share in the period ended Sept. 30, beating the average 11-cent loss estimated by 21 analysts in a Bloomberg survey." They say the improved Q2 results are coming at the expense of Q3 as EA pushed up the release of 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The San Jose Mercury News has further analysis of this, saying: "including deferred revenue, EA's sales in the quarter declined from the year-ago period on all gaming platforms except the PC, which only grew 1 percent."

Let's see the numbers as individual platforms like any good analyst would then? You say the xbox smokes the PC every quarter, I beg to differ.

360 total: 1229
PS3 total: 1011
PC total: 906

Realistically we'd need to see the breakdown. If the PC sales came mostly from The Sims 3 and a bunch of casual games then the lack of funding for hardcore PC games makes sense, doesn't it? For all we know we're comparing apples and oranges right now.

That is very true, but it's as easy to think that The Sims 3 is doing the majority of all sales as it is to think all the other games are since, as you've put it nicely, we don't have the breakdown of numbers. And as you can see from those added numbers, the PC is far from being the dying platform many claim it to be, if anything it's as viable as any individual console, except the Wii which is melting down in terms of sales.

I'm just against the fact that people keep saying PC doesn't sell. Obviously it does and it does well as the financial statements show, and these statements don't take into account other markets like the Indies which add even more marketshare of PC gaming over console gaming.
