The first patch for Medal of Honor is now available, updating the recently released first-person shooter reboot to version R7. Word is: "This R7 592256 manual update prepares the Medal of Honor client for the Clean Sweep and Hot Zone DLC and includes several fixes and tweaks." The patch can be downloaded from AtomicGamer, Gamer's Hell, and The Patches Scrolls. There's also an interview on Eurogamer talking with EA's Patrick Soderlund about the future of the Need for Speed series where Patrick also reveals they were disappointed in how the game turned out, though they don't necessarily agree with the reviews: "What I can say is the game didn't meet our quality expectations. In order to be successful in that space, we're going to have to have a game that is really, really strong. Medal of Honor is to some extent judged harsher than it should be. The game is better than today's reviews are indicating." The full change notes for the new patch follow.

Overon wrote on Nov 2, 2010, 11:50: Ahhh the cry of the bad reviews. Listen up, you are following Modern Warfare 2. You are making a game that is very much like Modern Warfare 2. How do you expect to be judged? Maybe they should review your game like Modern Warfare 2 never existed? Reviews should be made in the context of what has been released before. It's what one calls progress.
Looks to me that the game is not meeting EA's expectations and they have to complain about it. I wish the guy had actually made legitmate points. But I doubt he will point out specific examples of reviews that backup his points. This would be acceptable, IF, Modern Warfare 2 hadn't been a huge letdown. Medal of Honor is FAR better than MW2 was in Single Player, and personally, better in multiplayer since MW2's multi was absolutely broken and bug ridden (COMMANDO is one of the largest problems I have with MW2, no one should be able to knife from 10 feet away, and thats just a perk, not a bug) So yes, if you want to review MOH based on MW2 existing, it should have got a higher score than MW2. MW2 was made by guys on their way out the door and unhappy with where they were, and it showed. While I in no way feel that MOH is PERFECT, it deserved FAR better than the 6.0 review IGN gave it when they gave the broken MW2 a ridiculously undeserved 9.5
The worst part of IGN's review? They didn't even REVIEW the PC version. They reviewed the PS3 version and copy pasted it to the PC section. So you actually have no real PC review for the game, Gamespot did the same thing. This is why online review sites now fail in my eyes. i can't even trust them anymore, I'm better off pirating a game, determining for myself whether it sucks and then buying it. |
