Ships Ahoy - ArcaniA – Gothic 4 in EU

Steam News announces the release of ArcaniA – Gothic 4 for European territories, which should also now be available through other digital distributors, as it is now the 12th across the pond. The role-playing sequel from Spellbound Entertainment was previously expected on the 12th (tomorrow) in North America, as well, but last week DreamCatcher Interactive and JoWooD Entertainment announced the NA version of the game is now expected next week on October 19.

As a general rule, I don't rely on demos as reliable representations of full games. In some cases, great games have terrible demos. The Hitman: Blood Money demo, for example, used the game's tutorial level which was not an accurate representation of the full game at all. In other cases, you end up enjoying demos far more than full games. I played the crap out of the NOLF demo but when I got the full game, it didn't really hold my attention for that long. The demo for Arcania was quite bad and I think we can all agree on that. On the other hand, one hour of a 40+ hour RPG doesn't really give you enough to judge the whole game. Alpha Protocol didn't really get interesting until you left Saudi Arabia and unfortunately, most players didn't get that far before passing judgment. I'd hate to miss out on a good game because of a crappy demo or slow beginning but the reviews thus far seem to indicate that Arcania is one of the few cases where a demo is perfectly representative of the full product.
