It's somewhere buried deep in the reams of my To Do list to write a decent objective article as a replacement. |

Dev wrote on Oct 12, 2010, 03:42: 1 million accounts created doesn't mean much. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameRanger started in 1999, so it could easily be only 500k or 250k or less active accounts. In fact, since they say 3.2 million games played in a month, that seems to me to imply less than 1 million active, since that would only be 3 games in an entire month. I'm sure the average in active accounts is higher. It more says how slow the growth was when it was Mac-only (as you'd expect). The vast majority of the accounts have been created since the PC version was released at the end of 2008. (As an aside, other than it having the original release date correct, the Wikipedia article is mostly rubbish.) |

Wow. GR started in 1999; developed and coded by a guy from Perth. Nice to see that it's still going and growing.
I had account number 1016 or something. If I still had that email address in order to use thta original account I might check it out on Windows. But yeah this thing was great for Mac gaming back in the day once there were a few decent shooters and associated mods such as Unreal, Quake 2 and 3, etc. and you could get a decent card like a Voodoo 2. But I still my built my first PC in 2000. |

Yes, GameRanger, the best place to play pirated multiplayer games. I do remember the good ole MacOS 9 days though. |

| its a server browser for online games similar to what steam now offers. it started on the mac because a lot of multiplayer mac games did not have buddy lists and server browser in one package. its nice to see they have continued success on windows platform. |
