As for article's main premise, Marc says there's no scientific way to correlate the impact of reviews on sales, though he does agree there often appears to be a relationship: "Anecdotally, however, it does appear that many of the best selling games often have very high Metascores (Red Dead Redemption, Halo 3, Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto IV, etc.) There are, of course, exceptions on both ends. Enter The Matrix sold very well with a middling Metascore, and Beyond Good & Evil didn't find its audience despite a very strong Metascore. Again, the influences of strong licenses or lack of marketing/awareness can often help a mediocre game or stifle a very good game."
