The Codemasters Forums have a response to user complaints about the artificial intelligence in Formula 1 2010, their new F1 racing sim, along with an acknowledgement that some issues players have identified will require patching. They do, however, refute accusations that the AI drivers don't actually navigate the course when out of the player view, though they do admit this is the case during practice & qualifying to accommodate the jump-to-sector feature and the fast-forward feature in this mode and explain a texture swapping issue that doesn't allow switching between car views during race replays. They also deny their AI is oversimplified, saying: "The AI system implemented in F1 2010 is very complex, and is certainly not scripted in any way." They also present a vigorous defense of their race AI: "As none of the above feature restrictions are relevant in the race itself, we DO NOT use any other systems in the race other than the AI cars all physically driving the race just as the player does. Other factors also contribute to the AI lap times and the variation in their race pace. These include race start behaviours, their ultimate race pace which takes into account elements such as fuel and tyre degradation, weather, conserving / cooling engines etc, their in and out laps in the pit stop phase and their finishing pace."
