On Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Consoles

The Deus Ex: Human Revolution interview on Computer and Video Games sits down with Eidos Montreal's Jean François Dugas, director of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the upcoming continuation of the action/RPG series first created by ION Storm. Along the way Jean François addresses concerns that attempting to appeal to a broader audience will create a "consolified" game, which will turn off PC gamers:

Absolutely not. I think PC is a great platform, but I think consoles are a great platform, too. Back in the '90s, games on the two platforms were very different, but I think these days it's all about bringing things together - movies, TV, music - they're all converging in the same places for everyone to access. I see it as convergence, and it's the same for games.

We didn't think, 'Oh, it's coming to console; it has to be easy'. We can have a very deep experience, but it's important that if you want to just jump in to it, you can jump in to it. It's not about removing complexity or cutting possibilities: it's about the way the complexity is introduced.

Oh boy, this'll be a good one.

You all act like the first game was a masterpiece of complexity. It wasn't. It had a skill system where most skills were useless. Many augmentations were also useless. Hacking consisted of "Hit hack and wait." The shooter portion of the game was woefully bad, and the melee takedowns were "whack an NSF soldier on the buttocks."

What was GOOD about Deus Ex? The awesome story. The setting. The way it pulled you in and put you in JC's shoes, and the way it let you complete an objective in multiple ways. And this was without any branching storyline possibilities and not much in the way of dialogue choices, and on a pretty shitty engine. DX3 has all these things from what I can tell, and even one-ups the original.

What I've seen so far of DX3 makes me SERIOUSLY consider whether this might even be more enjoyable than the original game. They've brought back so many aspects of the original, and fixed so many of its flaws, while introducing modern elements like a deeper dialogue system.

Deus Ex is probably my favorite PC game of all time, but that's despite its many flaws.

This complete quote is the biggest rubbish of the week because what you obviously failed to remember while writing that post (or there's something wrong in your head) is that Deus Ex is not a 2010 game.. but a 2000 game. Yes, indeed, it's 10 years old, dude!

Now that I reminded you of that little though important fact, you have to agree that more than just the story was GOOD about Deus Ex.
I'm not gonna waste my time typing down the obvious list.

*scoffs once more at the ridiculous post*
