Turn-based games do something that real-time games can't, which is give you time to consider your tactics and strategy rather than having to formulate them ahead of time and then rely on muscle-memory and clicks-per-second speed and precision to carry them out faster than the other guy. If that's what the game is going to come down to, then I'd rather just play a twitch FPS game.

It's not a troll. Turn-based game design is so primitive it's a pitiful waste of development time.

I wish people would stop developing turn-based games. The only decent turn-based game is chess or checkers. It's like making modern text adventure RPGs. Welcome to 2010.

Yeah this one turn based game every 5 years is really annoying.

I disagree. The last great turn-based game I played was X-Com Apocalypse. Gal Civ 2 was decent, too, but the 4X genre is a little too much for me. I even had some fun with Fallout Tactics.

I've been waiting for a good turn-based game since X-Com.

The game runs off of a shitload of XML files. So adding units, kingdoms, spells, etc is really easy.
That's possible in GalCiv 2 as well. I was thinking more along the lines of actually changing core gameplay mechanics and such. E.g. what you can do in Civ 4/5, the Half-Lifes, UTs, etc.

Edit: With what I'm reading, the "modding" seems to just consist of quest/map/campaign/and such creation. That's not really a bad thing with the way this game's laid out, it's just not extremely interesting to my tinkering self. I'll definitely keep an eye on this game, though.

My impressions from reading the forums and the dev posts is that it will be extremely moddable. Looking forward to trying the demo.

The game runs off of a shitload of XML files. So adding units, kingdoms, spells, etc is really easy. They say the campaign was created using the tools they are releasing. As for a whole new game with mod tools? Dunno for sure. The modding stuff wasn't available until recently.

Well from what ive read the tools that were used to make the games campaign are included, so you should be able to mod just about everything

I've got a question for anyone following the game: to what extent is it moddable? Brad has made a big deal out of the modding, but he did with Galactic Civilizations 2 and there's not that much to it.
