Dungeons Officially Announced

Following our early word from Germany comes the official English announcement of Dungeons, with Kalypso Media saying to expect the upcoming Dungeon Keeper-style strategy game in the first quarter of next year. Here are some Dungeons screenshots and pieces of concept art and here's a bit on the game:

In Dungeons, our protagonist falls victim to a devious plot hatched by his vile, nasty and thoroughly vicious ex-girlfriend and finds himself at the bottom of the underworld hierarchy and the top of the dungeon pile which in this world is about as bad as it can get. Our Lord must have his revenge, and make his way back down the dungeon levels to his rightful place -- but first he must deal with his new bosses, the three despicable Dungeon Lords who stand in his way.

At his disposal are his dim-witted goblin minions who dig tunnels and build rooms to lay out his lair and trap ever stronger and braver heroes who dare to enter, not forgetting to plot his revenge against his ex-girlfriend and his new bosses who think itís great fun to bombard him with useless tasks. It goes without saying that a malicious and sneaky creature such as our Dungeon Lord has more than a few tricks up his sleeve. Revenge will be sweet indeed.

Let's not forget generic names like Myth, Fable, Fallout, Blood, Portal, Sin, I'm sure there's others..

Germans sure love to come up with generic names for their games: Gothic, Dungeons.

Yes, like "Doom" and "Quake". Stupid Germans.

And Rage. Yeah, Americans love to come up with generic verbs.

I'm pretty amazed that there wasn't a game called Rage already.

I loved the old Dungeon Keeper. If they can do the old game justice and add on some improvements (like invite players play heroes to trash your dungeon) then it could be a LOT of fun.

I'd rather see a new Dungeon Keeper from Peter M. Those games were awesome!
Do not confuse the team behind DK with the person PM. And yes, PM had his glory days. Bless him for the early Bullfrog days of Populous or Syndicate! But now, he's just a joke!

Except Peter M. has fallen a long way since then. I'm not sure he could pull off awesome any more.

I really did love Dungeon Keeper (that Horny figurine on my desk might prove that), but this looks way too much like an exact clone... still curious, tho. And the name could be worse: DUNGEON TYCOON.
Platzanweiser! Platzanweiser!

Wait, he's trapped at the bottom, and must make his way down?

Yes bottom of the underworld hierarchy (ie a common thug compared to the mafia boss) and top of the dungeon pile (I guess the thugs are near the surface, the mafia boss is at the bottom)

I really liked Dungeon Keeper, Evil Genius, etc. and could really go for a similar game that runs in one of the more modern engines.

Consoles? I owned two: a Pong clone and an Atari 2600. And that's it.

They could name it "generic German game" for all I care, as long as it doesn't suck..

With that said, I'm intrigued by this.
