XCOM Interview

There's an XCOM video interview on Games On Net speaking with Jonathan Pelling about 2K's first-person shooter based on the beloved X-COM series of UFO defense strategy games. Topics include how they have no fear of backlash over the genre change as he seems to think fans will just need to understand their approach, how the game will include many tactical and strategy elements, the roles of other characters, similarities and differences compared with the BioShock series, and more.

This game has Bioshock TC written all over it.

Yep. I have very very little hope for this one.

Companies are supposed to understand OUR approach, not us conforming to yours.

Sadly, "our" approach is in the minority. Game design is dictated by sales charts these days. If a game sells well, you copy it. This is why so many games have regenerating health, cover systems, leveling, aim assist, etc. First-person shooters sell well so that's the approach that developers focus on.

Not selling out and giving into the masses by changing a turn based strategy game into an fps... ok.

Because seriously who plays turn based strategy games these days?

Sword of the Stars is an epic favorite at any LAN party I participate in.

uhm..no..it's supposed to be the other way around.

If they don't...guess what...we don't buy your product!

I thought this is how we all wanted it. You know, developers not selling out and giving in to the masses to try and squeeze out every cent they can, but instead making THEIR game, a game they are interested in and care about.
