GOG.com now offers sales of Space Quest 1+2+3 to go along with their previous DRM-free reissue of Space Quest 4+5+6, offering even more of Sierra's classic space adventures. Word is: "The first two installments require text input to interact with the environment, but Space Quest 3 is of the more modern point-and-click variety. Despite the lack of full-talkie voiceovers, you'll surely recognize the witty, sarcastic humor and cunning sci-fi references you know and love from the later installments."

SQ1 was the first pc game i bought... in glorious EGA

and yes the text parser games were WAY better than the icon based games

my favorite sierra games were probly heros quest 1 + 2 tho.. what with the rpg stats you could build up and so on - unfortunately the combat in each of them was totally crap - you could win 99% of fights by holding down the "up" button.. beat a dragon with a dagger in the 1st one.. kinda wacky

I always preferred typing into the command parser over playing the point and click versions.

I want to say the Two Guys had left Sierra at that point, but I could be wrong. That might explain it...

I loved these games when I was a kid. I think my introduction into the series was a actually a multi pack that contained 1-3, with the first one being a remake. I never got to play 5&6, though I've got to say, the graphics in 6 look like crap. Stylistic direction, or massive budget cut?

The "Steam version" is just the retail collection from a few years ago which I know contains the remakes, not the originals, so this may well be the only way to currently buy the original versions.

Looks like (based on the screen shots) this includes the original version of SQ1, and not the VGA remake from a few years later.

Not sure which version the Steam bundle included.

But they are classics.
