Apparently he had a screened in porch and had the door open into the house. A deer jumped through the screen, ran into the house, and he finally found it in the kitchen, knocking over everything. I had a neighbor back in the day who had a buck ram through is first level apartment...mine being the one connected by a common wall to his.
I think I have told this story before, but the dam thing came through the main level window, smashed everything in his kitchen, blood everywhere, tore through the living room, back up through the window via the couch which he had just been sitting on....
The copper found the deer all tore up a few blocks away and had to dispatch him. Scary deal. He was on the couch, got up and went into the kitchen, and when it crashed through, he ran out into the hallway..... |

nice, down here in brooklyn the only wild life we see are squirrels, the ugly possums, and occasional the vicious racoons (aside from the occasiona mouse my cat seems to catch). would love to have deer as our visitor any day of the week.
i love the taste of venison but i know i wouldnt be able to pull the trigger and kill a deer even if it was for food. |

While it may be cute, it's a problem. A tasty problem at that. If you can find someone who hunts in the neighborhood you can kill it and take it to a butcher. That or the city will likely come by and destroy it for free. True about the wolves, but people do get antsier about wolf and coyote sightings around here than deer sightings, which is understandible.
Westchester, NY is a suburb of New York City, so as far as I know there's no rifle hunting here. Last year they had a pilot program for deer bowhunting, which they are expanding this year, but I'm not sure there are enough serious bowhunters to sufficiently cull the deer population. They do hold a lottery for applicants who pass a proficiency test (which I'm glad to hear they do, since it's a lot easier to wound an animal with an arrow than to kill it), so the implication is the demand for licenses is high, so maybe this will help. |

Yeah, you can thank your forefathers and gubment for almost wiping out the wolf for the overpopulation of deer and other vermin. The smartest thing they've been doing in the last 20 years is reintroducing wolves into the wild in the U.S..

I'd nickname him "badass," because I'm not sure I'd be willing to do that. This guy was prob 300 pounds and a little over 6 feet tall. He wasn't Rambo or anything, but I wouldn't want to piss him off, either...
But yeah, I would certainty be a little hesitant to do that. I'm sure some would ask why he just didn't shoot it, but shooting a gun in the house and the cleanup afterwords spring to mind. But the had to get it out somehow and it was apparently jumping around a bit and knocking shit everywhere... |

In spite of us being in the suburbs, and not the country, we have seen deer wandering around on occasion ever since we moved here. The burbs are prime deer habitat. They love it. Technically they thrive in what is called 'edge habitat'. As is becoming very common, they can become very accustomed to people.
The white tailed deer has become a nuisance, not only as a traffic hazard but for the ecology and environment. They eat a lot of the lower vegetation in the forest creating a 'browse line' which many trees and herbaceous plants can't deal with. Current deer populations are excessive with at least ten times the natural populations. My advice - don't feed them and advocate they be culled so that area forests can remain healthy.
Ecology lesson over. Return to work.

I believe he had to actually put it in a headlock and escort it out of the house. And I don't think it went willingly... I'd nickname him "badass," because I'm not sure I'd be willing to do that. The deer I'm talking about is pretty small, but surely outweighs me by a good deal. If i get too close during our "conversations" he will flick his tail towards me in a way that suggests he's perfectly willing to take me on if I cause any trouble. |

at this point I won't be surprised if I run into him in the bathroom. I had a user who was nicknamed "deerwrassler" by his coworkers:
Apparently he had a screened in porch and had the door open into the house. A deer jumped through the screen, ran into the house, and he finally found it in the kitchen, knocking over everything.
