Crackdown 2 is pretty nice. I liked the first one but wasn't overly sold on it. This seems to be more story driven (which is nice).
AND you can get achievements in the demo.

Meanwhile, can you imagine the sticker shock to a new user? Pay this for your console, this for your motion control, this for your games, this for your additional controllers, these for the attachments, this for the cable that isn't included, try not to look at the retail pricing for Blu-Rays, this for the Netflix, be sure to check on which HD you get, you need to get this extra online services, etc.

You're giving the end user too much credit, there are plenty of people willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money for things so long as they do it over time. Just look at our resident OnLive threads, although to be fair, no one is actually paying for anything there yet and it remains to be seen whether they will actually fork out cash for the service.

As the Wii proved, it's fine to be crazy expensive so long as you appear to be cheaper. The easiest way to do that is cheap SKU + expensive peripherals or monthly fees. And as the Wii proved already, there are many suckers out there who cannot manage their money or do basic math. Also keep in mind a lot of people don't have the cashflow to buy $500 of stuff at once but they can afford to do it over 2 months. Just because the sticker price for <console> + <peripherals> is $500 doesn't mean that's necessarily out of their price range. Make it $200 to get outside of the expensive stigma then sell them $300 in peripherals over time.

It's shitty but it's the modern gaming industry. No one cares consumer interests, buyers rights or personal ownership anymore. They just want to have fun and it doesn't matter if fun is being charged at $20/mo Bobby Kotick Tax + XBL membership + console + peripherals + games + DLC + etc etc etc.

I'd be surprised if we didn't see an xbox price drop in the near future to go along with the kinect launch. Combining it with todays prices I think isn't going to be reality. I think they'll drop the arcade 360 to below $200, (maybe $150?), the system with HDD to $200, then the system with kinect to $300. At those prices I can see this whole thing working and being VERY hard for Sony to compete with.

I think Sony's slim console starts at $249, they could include a motion controller and extra thingy for $300 if they wanted to take a loss...should probably include a game as well but I think they're going to have to push it to $349 if they want to include a game and that second controller doohickey.

In the end I don't see enough to want to spend the money on games, I am interested in doing video conference calls with the kinect if it will work with services other than live... I can live with dropping $149 for that feature alone. But if MS closes off access so that you can only talk to other live members then I'm not interested...yet.

Kinect is the all-in-one, but also the closest to nothing-in-one given its actual effectiveness.

For all of these, especially the multiple component controllers, they are a bit pricey for a single user and fairly unrealistic for a group.

Meanwhile, can you imagine the sticker shock to a new user? "Oh, but you can spend like $2xx and just get this non-motion gaming package...or have it included in the box with the Wii..."
Give me 1:1 in the box for a great price and then we'll talk.
Thinking this all sounds better in a generation or two,

Yeah, and it just sits there quietly by the tv rather than getting thrown on a table when not in use.

But this is why I was mostly ok with the Courier not being made. There's no way they could have made it affordable with current technology costs. The Kinect is clearly pretty costly to make. We'll see where that gets it.
The Move much less so, but it also seems more disorganized. You need the camera, you need the stupid ball thing, and you may or may not need the second piece. The second piece couldn't cost much, would have been better to bundle the two together, no?

I was referring to both and forget about price for a minute, Move is yet another bunch of device clutter. At least Kinect is just one shitty gimmick piece of plastic instead of adding 3+.

In fairness, Move for two people is pretty damn expensive. But no one notices that because it's sold by controller. Which means, on shelves, people would gravitate towards it, buy it, then later notice they need to spend $150 to get another person in.

Still not sold on either of these for the reason that they only support two people, though. Wii is only fun with more than 2.

Yeah it generally helps if you first determine that you can sell something affordably instead of just making it and hoping.
