Which is why I NEVER buy games from Steam unless the games are on some super sale like 80% - 100% off.
Steam is fucking expensive outside of the US.
I offer a tip for everyone : Do what I do and use http://www.gamestracker.com/ to find the best price in your area.
Standard US price for ME2 is listed on Gamestracker as $26.44 for the US and it's €18.54 in continental Europe.
18.54€ compared to the standard Steam price of 49,99€ is 62% off - Better than Steams current 40% off. They can take their "sale" and stick it somewhere unpleasant - Other stores are much cheaper even when they are not on sale.
When they are on sale elsewhere , it's even cheaper. I picked up Dragon Age on a holiday offer last Christmas for next to nothing.
It pays to shop around.
www.cdwow.com
Very cheap! The stuff is mostly coming all the way from Hong Kong but it's a site you can trust! I always order my games there. New AvP for 18 euros. Alpha Protocol, 18 euros. Dragon Age: Awakenings, 16 euros.
It's most often 50% cheaper than the normal price. Downside? Average ETA of 5 days. |

It does. And it sucks that non-USA folks get rammed up the ass.
But I do like it when Steam sells 3 month old games for $15 sometimes. I don't buy new releases anymore because I've caught on. Well, that and "new" releases feel more and more like rehashes these days.
I'm waiting for ME2 to be $9.99 like the other guy here said. |

It's amazing that so many people here think that EVERYONE lives in the continental USA. Most of the rest of the world does not.
If you live in say, the Caribbean, like I do, Amazon is a more expensive alternative. In fact, every game purchase involving shipping is a more expensive alternative. Retail games here can sell for $70 - $80 USD if you go to a store to buy them.
And as for the less content. I don't get it. It's the same game, no matter what. I don't need to collect more discs. I certainly don't need a game manual that I can grab a PDF for(usually off Steam itself), and if not, there are plenty floating around on the web.
In terms of DRM, we've gone over this a million times on Blues. Steam is one of the least intrusive DRMs there is currently. I have it running in my task bar pretty much constantly. And it offers an offline mode.
All of the games that have DRM in the boxed versions, have the same DRM in Steam. If you bought it off Steam or not, it would still have whatever DRM the manufacturer shipped it with because Steam has no authority to remove a game developer's DRM without their express permission.
Geez, there are some people who take every opportunity to crap on Steam. If you don't use it, fine. But you don't have to run some kind of smear campaign every time Digital Distribution comes up, like Steam killed your mother and violated your sister. |

Either you live at least several hours away from any retailer, or you have the world's fastest Internet connection and a reserved pipeline to Steam. Neither of those is true for most people. Well there's quite a bit more involved to go to a store than just the trip itself. Like getting dressed for instance or finding the game, walking through the store, waiting in line.
Yes there are games bigger than 10GB but not all of them, many are still under 10GB. 10GB takes about 1.5 hours at 2MB/s. That's faster and considerably more convenient than going to the store for me. |

Unlike most cases, the extra armor and weapons don't become obsolete compared to normally available early and mid-game equipment, and the armors will remain effective through the entire game, provided you don't get sick of looking at it. I have the Collector's Edition armor and the amazon pre-order Inferno armor and never used either one. Why? Because they both have a non-removable helmet that covers your entire face.

But in my case (and I assume most others) a download from Steam is much quicker than a trip to a retailer. There's plenty of issues with DD that don't apply to retail stores but I don't think you have any of them there. I was speaking of Steam directly, and all those apply, at least for me. Steam is always more expensive than amazon.com, always. Steam has more DRM than retail games because Steam IS DRM, and rarely does it remove the DRM the retail copy has, if it even has any. Many games even have activation DRM on the Steam version they do not have at retail, like Risen or Batman AA. Less content for your money means no box, manual or disc despite paying MORE for the product. Waiting to download is a real factor, it takes at least 2 hours to download a game like Mass Effect 2, I don't care how great of internet you have... if you don't have a store within 2 hours of you, well that sucks, but that has to be rare in the major metropolitan areas.
I actually buy everything on amazon with release day delivery and it all shows up at my apartment around lunch time, where as Steam doesn't usually unlock games until 2 or 3PM Eastern time.
The reason so many people act like Steam is cheaper and more convenient than it is is because you can just click a button and buy a game. It's addicting and instantly satisfying. It's not actually cheaper or more convenient than amazon though, especially for new releases... it just feels like it is. |

On a side-note, there's also a lot of free DLC, so make sure you snag it all (Kasumi's paid DLC is also very much worth it for starting a new game compared to getting it after already being done. The Overlord DLC is, I think, better for saving until you've beaten the game.)
The Collector armor and Blood Dragon armor (though the latter doesn't come with the DD edition) are particularly nice for making a run on Insanity. |
