Out of the Blue

I picked up a 20 lb bag of birdseed at the supermarket since it was extra cheap. A couple of days after, I happened to look out the window, and see the bag right where I had put it in the back yard, testimony to my failure to put it away as planned. Of course the scene wasn't as simple as that, as there were birds picking at what was scattered about by the squirrel sitting on a huge mountain of birdseed like Scrooge McDuck on a pile of gold. Everybody seemed so pleased with this situation that I just decided to leave things be, and will just clean up the aftermath when the seed has all been eaten. I just hope that squirrel is still able to walk by that time, because he's looking pretty fat.

Fat squirrels usually don't live very long. The next cat or bird of prey who comes along will be happy though.

I'm sure there's a lesson for us all in this, but I'm to complacent to figure it out.

Point your tv speakers outside.
Get the world cup soccer channel.
You may never see another squirrel in your backyard again.

Good eats!

I think one of the recipes calls for Gray fox and snake. How in the world are we supposed to get a gray fox or a solid snake?! Surprised

The bird seed story sounds like a good analogy on online piracy......

"I just hope that squirrel is still able to walk by that time, because he's looking pretty fat"

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

Squirel is tasty if prepared right. You know he's not eating garbage since you've provided so much food. I bet you could catch him with your bare hands.

I'm asking why. Is it a shed or a bona fide garage?

It is a bona fide garage, but it is in the back yard, and there is no driveway leading to it.

Our understanding is this house was built in the 1920s by someone for his mother to live in. He apparently build the garage first to use as a base of operations for his tools and building materials and then built the house itself. I don't know if it was his original intent to have the garage be inaccessible (maybe his mom didn't drive?), but when it was all said and done, the garage is in the back yard with no practical way to use it for a car, so we use it as a really large shed.

He built three other houses in our immediate vicinity for other family members, and only one of them has a proper garage/driveway combo.

In New York a shed is a garage.

Wait... so how did that happen? You put the car in the garage, and then carry a 20 lb bag of bird seed into your backyard and promptly forget what you are doing?

No, our garage is not actually accessible by car (seriously -- but don't ask me why, I didn't build the place). We parked in the driveway next to the fence, and I lifted the bag over the fence, intending to to put it in the metal garbage can I use to protect the seed from being marauded, and promptly forgot all about it after we put away the rest of the groceries.

Kind of like what happened in L.A. yesterday after the Lakers won. Yes I am suggesting birds and squirrels are L.A. Laker fans.

On a plus note that squirrel will probably be so obese after that sinful gorging that you probably won't see him (or her) for at least week, or more!

Obviously, the backpacking frog does nothing to frighten away Mr Squirrel. Maybe he's bulking up for a Battle Royale in the backyard.

It doesn't show the birds, as they scattered when I opened the blind to get a photo, but Mr. Squirrel is still having fun. The reflections are from the window.
