"anti-cheat out of the box" is an especially horrible idea, the implementations are always half assed or invasive. and if you're valve, there's always the chance you get banned and never know why because it's no questions asked, thanks for your money, feel free to register a new steam account. i think that's something better left to third parties.
games don't get made for pc users anymore. that sucks, but it means the shit on this list is a thing of the past. which is too bad, because i fucking hate matchmaking. And obviously doing nothing but being sarcastic about it will help make the future a lot brighter, of course! |

FPS manifesto had me thinking, prone, lean, iron sights, body damage according to where you hit, better AI...
That would be a design manifesto, and no one would ever agree to that.
There's nothing wrong with this list. Yeah, a lot of things are multiplayer oriented, but the ESSENTIAL list contains features that should be de facto amongst PC games these days, not just FPS (so the 'manifesto' is a bit narrow-minded in that regard)
The only thing I think is important in the 2nd list is the map editor. |

Please stop making lists and calling them "manifestos". It makes us sound like terrorists or commies.
Having said that...
Mod Tools - This will save you development costs by giving your customers new content and no cost to you and give you great ideas for the next version of your game. Whatever you can't put in the game we can put it in for you. Just give us the tools please. By far my personal biggest request. |

| Couldn't some software company just develop some API or plug-in that offers all these things for any game to utilize? That would take the pressure off the developers to create it from scratch and focus on the game itself. |

Damn sounds like nearly everything we had for Quakeworld 14 years ago.
Not quite, but how pathetic that people need to make lists like this for features like "LAN Capability" today. But gaming is better than it's ever been, quit whining! |

Not a single thing on the list interests me. How about more important things like proper widescreen, mouse in menus, HUD size, FSAA, no mouse smoothing or acceleration, configurable graphics, menu size, mod support, high res textures, etc.. |

Business as usual. True, but still if they see the demand for these features grow in strength who knows? Where there's demand there's often supply, and there's no harm done supporting this, I guess. From what I gather, they're trying to gather as much support, clans, players, everyone, as possible to sign it so they can put the pressure on developers.
I reckon it's a good idea, let's hope they manage to gather enough people. |
