You think if I wanted to I wouldn't have already? Besides its not like they're not going to stop supporting windows xp soon.
I bought some games to use on a supported operating system and soon I will not be able to use them on that system. Aint DRM grand.
-- funny thing that made me just look at the portal page I 'bought' free portal because I was wondering if it was not win 2k supported... but it does mention 2k as a supported OS!

This time I seemed to have gotten lucky by not updating (and having running) steam first and getting portal actually worked like a normal online buy!
Then I updated steam and got the bad news
Support for Steam on Windows 2000 will end on August 31st 2010. This means you will no longer be able to run Steam.
No more steam games for me! But why are you still using 2K for games? |

Whatever happened to that one nut job, ummm...Astley Putz or some such bs. There were some classic wars in here with that person.
I wondered the other day if he's now posting as "commonperson" after what was written in another thread.

Not everyone is a hardcore gamer. Indeed, and even some of us who are (ahem...) have overlooked it in the past or thought it wasn't something they would get into. I didn't play it until about two months ago, for the first time. I never got the Orange Box because I lost interest in HL2 after Episode 1. I thought it was sub-par compared to the original material and didn't really have much faith in Ep2. But, as time goes by, you tend to look back at some games, especially really popular ones, and decide to take a look just to see what the big deal is. Thus, I was able to get my hands on Portal in February from a cousin of mine. I played it and thought it was ok, but the latter levels got confusing and lately I haven't had the time to devote to a long play session or the patience. But I didn't want to cheat either and ruin the fun of it if I got the chance to play in the future. Now maybe I can give the DVD back to my cousin and download it so I'll be able to play it at my leisure...
You'd be surprised how many games 'hardcore' gamers don't play...at least not right off the bat...
=-Rigs-= Yep, there are TOO MANY games. My problem is laco f free time. There are a lot of new games (demos too!) I want to play. And there are a lot of OLD games (Crysis, World in Conflict, C&C3:KW, etc.). I need to resume. I only play like 0-2 hours a week. |

Free until May 24th Does that mean you can get the game free forever as long as you grab it before the 24th Or is it like an extended 'free weekend' ie it will end on the 24th (if you haven't purchased it)
I was thinking the same thing?!?!
I wondered the same. Either way, its still a very nice gesture.

Got to be said as well, Good move by Valve to get Mac user using steam, no reason to try Steam unless you have a game to play?, Here, free game so now you have a reason to install it and give it a try, oh and by the way, the game we are gonna give you is quite liked by lots of people so they'll all tell you to give it ago.
I my, have played and finished Portal at a friend's house but will most surely take this oppertunity to add it to my Steam games.

Portal was as perfect a gaming experience I've had since I first played XCOM or Master of Magic. It's not a game; it's an experience, and a wholly enjoyable one at that. The character GladOS is as unique and interesting a character gaming has seen since Shodan, and she/it is every bit as brilliantly implemented. The game mechanics were absolutely spot on; fun yet sophisticated, challenging without frustrating, and engaging without being complicated.
I've heard people say it was short, but I found the length to be pitch perfect - it never overstays its welcome yet it leaves you completely fulfilled. And while it's played out and trite now, anyone who says they weren't grinning ear to ear if not laughing out loud at the end song is a big fat fibber! This game was pure, magical gaming bliss.
In short, I liked it. A lot. Anyone who hasn't played this yet (So how was it on that Island, anyway?) absolutely has to get this. |
