Six weeks of delay is not bad for a DRM. If it can be sustained for other releases, especially high profile titles that come out the same day as their console counterpart, then Ubisoft will see higher sales during the launch window. Doubtful. People assume that the market for console ports on the PC is somehow sustainable in the first place and that's definitely not true for all genres. For instance third person cover based action shooters are immensely popular on the consoles but barely register a blip on the PC platform for the most part. Publishers just somehow think that everything should magically sell just because they make the product available and that's not how the market works on the PC platform. |

It really depends on whether this crack has any impact on future Ubisoft titles. I think, it won't, since the DRM relies on server side content that requires someone to play the game in its entirety through multiple paths to get the server data. This could take months on open-world games and/or branching CRPGs.
What the pirates have right now is probably a working process that integrates the missing data back to game executable, and that process can probably be applied the same way to the rest of Ubisoft titles. But that just saves a few days from hacking part, the real time-consuming part would be getting the server data, and that'd vary from game to game.

Overall the game is just way deeper and more complex than the first. I can't really agree with you there. Combat is still a matter of holding down Block and pressing Counter when enemies attack one at a time. Platforming is still a matter of holding down two buttons and watching the game play itself. Stealth is improved, though. It no longer consists of just holding down the Stealth button while walking past guards. The AI now has a search proximity too so they don't chase you forever. Still, this isn't going to give Splinter Cell (pre-Conviction), Thief or Hitman a run for their money.
The biggest improvement I see in AC2 is the story. It's a lot more interesting and well-developed than in the first game.
I didn't even know ac2 for pc was released. I was excited when it came out for consoles, and kept checking on when the pc version would come out, but lost interest a few months later. Smart ubisoft, smart. This. Delayed ports hurt sales a lot more than piracy.

....blah blah blah more lame insult attempts....since you're obviously one of the bigger pirates here... You need to spend more time here then, I'm usually one of the people arguing against piracy. There's a difference between having knowledge and using it. |

Ask on a piracy website. I was hoping you'd have some good recommendations, since you're obviously one of the bigger pirates here...
On topic: Has anybody actually played this game yet? Is it worth the $60 or whatever the fuck it's selling for right now (disregarding the DRM issues)? Figured I'd wait and see, in case it's just more of the same from the first one. Not that that would necessarily be a bad thing, but one of AC1's flaws was repetition and lack of variety. --edit-- Nevermind. Guess that partially answers my question... |

The only gripe I have with it really is that it doesn't have a setting for cranking up the distance at which I can see fully detailed buildings. The default is pretty bad and there can be some really obvious pop-in. I've already beaten the game on the PS3, was just wondering how the port itself was. That's a shame though, texture pop-in is a deal breaker for me. I wanted to have it in my Steam collection but oh well, their loss. |

(nope I didn't buy or pirate this game) Speaking of people who bought it...the DRM aside, how is the port itself this time around? Anyone had a chance to spend some time with it? I'm nearing the end of the game and I've had more fun with it than I ever did with the first one. The bulk of the side missions are "assassination" missions, which are basically what they sound like. Kill this dude. But they are really varied. They also avoid putting in too many stupid race type missions for people who suck at free running across roofs and such.
Lets see.. there's a currency system where you buy weapons and armor, which are unlocked by progressing the story and doing a few other things. Currency is earned via missions, pickpocketing, looting treasure chests, killing or tackling messengers/thieves, and the big payout is by upgrading your Villa which you get about 2 hours into the game. It provides income by attracting visitors and such and upgrades to it scale your money so ridiculously high that its worth suffering with crap gear early on to make sure you upgrade the Villa ASAP. Money from the villa is deposited in a chest there every 20 minutes.
There's a fast travel system for getting from town to town in case you don't want to ride a horse. Um... combat is hugely improved. You can still take on 10 guys but since you can't just hold down the defend option and pick them off with countering, it's a lot more hectic. There are some guys whose weapons simply cant be blocked or deflected, some who are hard to hit, etc. I find myself switching between sword, dagger, hidden blade, and fists in large fights just to pick off the various enemies efficiently.
Overall the game is just way deeper and more complex than the first. The performance is really good. I run it at 1920x1200 with everything maxed on a 2 year old system and the framerates are very good.

But yeah, I'm pretty happy with the game. I was glued to it for several days. |

I'd also like to add that 2 out of 5 children turn to crime and drugs because of DRM. Because they can not play their games due to the prohibitively higher prices or technical issues that cause the game to be unplayable, I suspect kids turn to carjacking and shooting up heroine for their entertainment value instead Grand Theft Auto 5? |

| The consoles don't usually support cheats these days and the average age range is 19-35 dude. This also has nothing to do with second hand sales, there are virtually none on the PC platform versus the consoles second hand sales market. They can keep the price at whatever they want to thanks to digital distribution, people dont take value cues from ebay auctions. |

Yup, nailed it on the head, the aftermarket kills them, because it reflects the true price of the product... PC games today hold the attention span of the gamer for about 15 minutes. They soon realize the game is not fun because it has zero playability and are more annoyed than entertained...
Problem is definitely in the product and not the pirates.
The consoles are younger generation and more geek than gamer, so they RUN (not play) the game through the story, usually with cheats on to get past the battles and whatnot to get to the end story, then send flowers and emotes to the devs on what a great GAME (heh) it was. But in truth it was nothing more than a interactive story. |

It took so long because it was a new version of SecuROM. The hackers had to start from scratch.
Just because there are other ways around it does not mean the hacking scene slows down. They keep going till its a "Copy the EXE from the 'crack' folder to the install dir". Perhaps you should do some reading yourself, it was Starforce, not SecuRom. |
